Hey Permies!

On August 11th starting at 9am, the Southwest Florida Permaculture Guild is going to help Rene and Andrea (members of the Guild) of Rainbow Sage Acre Farm start a Food Forest via a Permablitz!  Think of a Permablitz as a modern day barn raising where we come together as a community to help someone with something related to Permaculture.  Come out and help these amazing people work on their transition towards sustainability!  We'll be doing some sheet mulching and then planting 10-15 trees.  Drinks and snacks will be provided along with supervised child care if you want to bring your little one(s).

If you come to the Permablitz, you are then eligible for a future Permablitz at YOUR place.  See how that works here: http://www.flpermies.com/showthread.php?t=28

What to bring:
A. If you have a shovel or pitch fork, please bring it. Put your initials on your tools in case others have the same kind.
B. A wide brim hat and sun screen if you aren't used to the sun.
C. Gloves if you need them
D. A wheel barrow if you can manage it.

We hope to see you there!  As always, if you have questions, you can ask here or on our community forum at www.flpermies.com

Regards,

David

I just joined. My wife and I started a community garden at 8200 Immokalee Road, Cornerstone UMChurch last year and are greatly expanding that with a 40 tree grove and 1/2 acre garden in which we hope to incorporate permaculture principles. On 8/24 we plan for the initial planting of the expansion which will include 50 fruit trees and another 50+ fruit bushes (Mulberry, jabotacaba, sugar cane, bamboo, bananas, etc. My phone is[masked] if you are interested in the project.

Hello Everyone - Andrea, Sage and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work yesterday - best Sunday ever ;-). Andrea actually said it's surreal and I fully agree. You all volunteered time and manpower to an amazing transformation of an actually pretty looking lawn to a wonderful food forest that will potentially feed generations to come. You all planted around 72 trees and sheet mulched a great portion of the lawn!!! Besides the hard work and heat we had a lot of laughs and made new friends – yes we are building a community. Three months ago we thought we'd be on ourselves in Naples and have a hard time getting people interested in permaculture....we were sooooo amazingly wrong :-). This meetup group is 76 members strong and it's growing fast. David and Alex - thank you for helping organizing the Permablitz – your recommendations were very valuable. Can't wait for the next Permablitz....See you soon (in a food forest!?) ;-)

Hi Laurie, we also have a 4 yead old boy here and we are thinking of either getting a baby sitter for the blitz to watch all kids or have a few of us watch the kids for an hour and rotate. We have a pool and a trampoline!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
