Introduction

I moved to Akron a little over a year ago and trying to find my "niches." I am a graduate of Hiram college with a B.A. in cellular botany. I love book clubs because of the new perspectives and authors I am introduced to.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Classical literature, such as Saul Bellow and Somerset Maughm; fiction, such as Salman Rushdie and Truman Capote; and science fiction. I do read non-fiction on subjects such as theology, the sciences, and biographies. I also enjoy P.J. O'Rourke. I admit that a lot of my reading is scientific papers on anthropology, evolution, sociology, and psychology.

Are you a fan of "real" (non e-book) books, e-readers or both?

No. I am unable to read electronic media and I much prefer hard copy because there's a lot of "ritual" involved in reading

On average how many books do you read a year?

Not as many as I want. Perhaps ten...

Any suggestions for spots to get together at, ie coffee houses etc.?

Some Panera's have a separate room that can be used for free. In general, I really like going to coffee houses, especially offbeat ones, like the Nervous Dog here in Akron

Ok, welcome doesn't cut it. I'm very happy to see another book nerd here. Havent heard of winterlong, but it sounds interesting, and thankyou for sharing.

But really, welcome to the group. We have a discussion group started for arranging preffered meetup locations and activities. Please post your preferences there and later, a meetup will be arranged according to whatever works best.
