From Ball of Mud to Venus De Milo - Mike Gardiner

Does your JavaScript feel like a big ball of mud? Does hoisting scare the living daylights out of you? Do you poke tentatively at every function() and dread having to make changes? Are you tired of living in that house of cards?

We have just the thing.

Everyone wants better code, and you can make it better by refactoring. But how do you refactor unless you can tell if your changes have broken anything? If only you had a suite of tests that described how the code behaved right now so you could make changes in style? With your Raybans on. In your convertible. The music up loud. Cruising down the coast.

Well, you've got to start somewhere.

In this talk we take some pretty typical client-side JavaScript code, harness it with a test suite and unit test it until we can be confident refactoring. And then we can take it to a happier place.

Guaranteed to increase the number of tests in your untested code base by a factor of infinity!

Hi guys, Rod Vagg is organising [what I assume to be] the first Coordinated Australian NodeSchool on June 21. Expressions of interest?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
