August 2013 Meetup @ Lucky Paws Pool

Join us for another splash at Lucky Paws! Pittsburgh's only dog pool!

As you're probably aware, Bulldogs aren’t known to be the strongest swimmers. So if this is your fat head’s first time at the pool you may be a bit leery of having him/her in the water. While I understand your concern, I don’t think you have much to worry about. The pool has a very gradual slope from 0-4 feet and dogs tend to know their swimming limitations. But if you still feel nervous, feel free to bring a doggy life vest. And we promise not to giggle (too much).

Outdoor Dog Park & Pool:

  • 3,000 sq ft, zero-entry (0-4 ft) swimming pool
  • grassy, off leash park enclosed by a 6 ft high fence
  • water fountains, park benches, pavilion with picnic tables
  • mountains, tunnels, play equipment

Indoor Dog Park:

  • 3,500 sq ft indoor facility
  • connected to the outdoor park
  • waterfall, sound system, big screen TV, and of course A/C!

Vaccinations Requirements: Proof that your dog is current on Rabies, Distemper, and Bordatella. Also must be free of fleas, ticks, worms, and other parasites.

Cost: $10 per dog (one-day pass good until 6pm closing time, gets you access to indoor/outdoor park and pool)

Are frenchies welcome too? I am bringing Henry to Lucky Paws on Saturday for the first time. He might have to wear his life jacket though, I'm not sure how he will do around the water. Any advice?

Frenchies are definitely welcome! I wouldn't worry too much about the water. It's a very gradual slope. So all the Bulldogs can go out at least halfway in the pool before the water reaches their neck. And when it does reach their neck, most turn around and come back in. A few have been known to swim! But for those that are better "sinkers" than swimmers, all the people are close by in case a Bulldog needs a hand.

We can't wait to finally make it! We have been wanting to come all summer but have not had a Saturday free. Well this Saturday we are free. I can't wait to meet all of you and Champ(our bullie) is so very excited.

Can I say MAYBE? I'm going to try and attend - it will be my first meetup in years! do we also wear swimsuits just in case we have to rescue our bulldogs?

    July 6, 2013

    • Debra

Ha. I think flip flops will be just fine. We have never had a Bulldog in need of rescuing. But if dog does struggle a little, it's pretty easy to pull him/her from the side of the pool. Or if it's a serious drowning situation, obviously run or jump in because the "no people in the pool" rule doesn't apply if you're trying to save a life.
