What book would you recommend for H&WR?

Jane Smiley's "A Thousand Acres" might be interesting; its themes are about family, abuse, secrets and the complex relationships that emerge when family and livelihood are entwined. On the other hand, maybe it's too depressing ;) I think Smiley's an engaging and interesting writer, so any of her work would be interesting to read.

What's your favorite book?

It's hard to pick a favourite! Some books that have stuck with me either because of their writing or themes, or both, are Ian McEwan's "Chesil Beach"; "White Tiger"; "Clear Light of Day"; anything Armistead Maupin - not especially literary, but totally fun.

What book do you love but you're afraid to admit it?

I read a lot of schlock - mostly instead of watching tv - so I can go through a ton of mysteries, most of which are mediocre-ish, but I can't say I'm afraid to admit that.

Introduction

I've never read a book simultaneously with others before (well, outside of college) and I thought it would be fun to experience the book and talk about it with other people.
