I'm not sure what you guys have already covered, but the last book that really stood out for me was Little Bee. Old news now, I know, but it was just so good. I also love introducing people to Angle of Repose. Wallace Stegner is a beautiful writer, the story is engrossing, and the history behind it is fascinating as well. It's not exactly upbeat though.
Impossible question for me! There are books for every mood, time of day, part of the world...when I re-read books, I tend towards the ones that feel like comfort food-- Jane Austen and J.K. Rowling are both in that category for me-- but that doesn't necessarily make them favorite, just loved in a particular mood or setting.
Not exactly afraid to admit it, but I have a definite love for sci-fi and fantasy. Some of them are well written, I swear!
Hi, I'm new to Philly and would love to have an excuse to read good books and talk about them with good people!
