Hey Hipsters and Bibliophiles,
The first meetup has filled, so we will open up a second date to discuss this classic!
A twist of protocol... resident bibliophile Lauren has suggested we read a classic... to sort of suit our "well read" title. And wanted to see if there'd be anyone else interested. I said sure! So for September we'll try the classic:Anna Karenina
by Leo Tolstoy
Some people say Anna Karenina is the single greatest novel ever written, which makes about as much sense to me as trying to determine the world's greatest color. But there is no doubt that Anna Karenina, generally considered Tolstoy's best book, is definitely one ripping great read. Anna, miserable in her loveless marriage, does the barely thinkable and succumbs to her desires for the dashing Vronsky. I don't want to give away the ending, but I will say that 19th-century Russia doesn't take well to that sort of thing.
I had no problems finding this at the local independent bookstore.Anna Karenina
is available on Amazon.com, however, I encourage you all to support your local independent book store or library:City Paper's List of Independent BookstoresGoogle Map/Listing of Independent Bookstores in Philly
You will notice that that if you RSVP "Yes," you'll be charged to attend. This is to help me cover my costs as Organizer and reduce the number of no-shows we have at meetings. Please keep in mind I'm only giving refunds if the meeting is canceled or rescheduled, not if you change your mind about attending.Thinking about coming when the Meetup is FULL? Read/click here.
