We will get the tough part out early as we begin the day hiking up arugged, at times steep, rocky trail leading to the peak of glaciated Mt. Tammany. The elevation gain is in excess of 600 feet and this portion takes approximately 1 hour. Once upon the peak, you will embrace stunning vistas of the Delaware Water Gap and the Delaware River.
Feeling refreshed, we will continue along the Kittatinny Ridge where Native Americans once flourished and descend a beautiful tree-filled valley leading to Dunfield creek, which drains the mountain and flows into the Delaware River. A glorious hike with little elevation change beside the creek takes us deep into the valley and leads us to the glacial lake of Sunfish Pond, designated as a National Natural Landmark. After surrendering to the serenity and beauty of the lake, we will connect with and hike out on the famous Appalachian Trail, a trail approximately 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine.
This Delaware Water Gap Day hike will redefine your connection to Pennsylvania’s mountains.
