Free Hawthorne Park Evening Jazz Concerts: Let's Do Thur June 20 7PM

Let's hear the Mike Boone/John Swana Project on Thur, June 20, at 7:00pm.   Bring your own folding chair and come early, maybe bring a sandwich or something to munch on, relax and unwind.

Jazz Bridge, a nonprofit that assists our local jazz and blues musicians in crisis, is partnering with the Friends of Hawthorne Park to present Jazz In Hawthorne Park, a FREE summer jazz concert series in the park at 12th and Catharine Streets, Philadelphia, on the third Thursday evening of every month this summer. Concerts start at 7 p.m.

Where:  Hawthorne Park occupies a square city block at 12th and Catherine Streets

Bring a chair and prepare to groove with:

The Mike Boone/John Swana Project on June 20

The Renaissance Quartet with Tyrone Brown on July 18

Webb Thomas and Webb T's Fleet on August 15

The Venissa Santi Quartet on September 19

These performers are the crème de la crème of the Philly jazz scene, so spend a glorious early evening concert in one of the finest new parks the city has to offer. Be there to support Jazz in Philly and celebrate the city’s community parks!

What is that instrument that John Swana was playing last night? It is an Electronic Valve Instrument, a synthesizer for brass players. It's an instrument he first picked up in the 1980s and has been fooling with ever since. Look on the message board for more about this former trumpeter and why he no longer plays the trumpet.

These four musicians are among the best - I've heard Tim Brey (piano) and Mike Boone (bass) at other venues, with other groups. Just a perfect evening!

I plan to be there by 6:30PM and will have a MEETUP SIGN, which will be attached to my RED UMBRELLA! You can always call my cell, but I don't have smart phone so can not get emails. Suggest you bring your own chair, or if you don't have a chair, a beach towel or something like that to sit on. Looks like a nice day. Sunny with temperatures rising towards the low 80, zero chance of rain.
