Tell us about how, when, and why you first started to learn French.

I grew up in a household where French was spoken half the time. I understood a great deal, but never got good at speaking the language. At present I can say a few phrases and understand a bit if spoken slowly. It is part of my heritage and I don't want to lose it completely. I dream of going back to France one day to visit my family there. When I go I'd love to be able to converse with them in French.

I long to reconnect with what little French I have inside. I'm Haitian American, with a heavy emphasis on American. I visited France about 8 years ago and loved every minute, even my rough attempts at conversation.
