The plan for this hike roughly resembles a figure "8" (or the infinity symbol if you prefer), with our center point being the trailheads at Ford Road and Chamounix Drive, a 15-minute walk down the hill from our meetup point at the #38 bus shelter at Ford & Cranston Roads. It is a difficulty level of 2 or 3 on a scale of 1-10, 1 being easiest, and involves a bit less than 2 hours of walking (or a bit more if we're feeling adventurous). There is a modest amount of on-street parking at Ford & Cranston. (****Don't* park in the lots, or you'll be towed.***) If you are coming by public transit, you can catch the #38 going (north)west from Center City (trains or EL), or south(east) from the Wissahickon Transfer Center. (Please goto
www.septa.org to get familiar with travel details. We will spend 45 minutes or so exploring the trails south(west) as far a Ridgeland Mansion, and a similar amount of time exploring north(east) to Chamounix Mansion. About 70% of our time will be on dirt trails in the woods. There are moderate changes in elevation (less than the Wissahickon). The elevated asphalt recreational trail paralleling Chamounix Drive will also be part of our hike. There is a stripmall (including Asian takeout and "Chris's Pizza") across the street from our meetup point. This is a fairly mellow hike, and there are 2 or 3 chances to leave early, including catching the #38 bus on Conshohocken Road.
