30th Street, Logan Circle, River Path: Sculpture/Architecture Walking Tour

"Recycling" this event from 2 years ago: as well as 2 years before that.  It was also my inaugural event as Organizer, a year before that (in 2008).

Philadelphia is a city with many public sculptures, and beautiful architecture. We will be introducing ourselves to some of the most accessible of these, starting at beautiful and historic 30th Street Train Station. {...Station Amenities16 bike racks are available, accommodating a total of 32 bicycles.Additional Bike RacksAdditional racks may be available upon station completion...} --on the east side of the station.

We will be meeting near/on the benches between stairways 2 & 4, at the east end of the main concourse, near the WWII PA Railroad Workers Memorial (looks like an angel holding a fallen soldier)-- near the Christmas tree. Before leaving the building we will check out the wall sculpture "Spirit of Transportation" as well. Proceeding east on Market Street, we will utilize North 22nd & 23rd, Race & Winter Streets, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and Logan Circle to look at a wide variety of architecture and sculpture (and a mural or two), from the historical to the abstract, the inspirational to the educational. Our easternmost point will be the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul, near 17th Street. Our northernmost point will be the Rodin Museum: last I knew was pay-what-you-will, but "The Thinker" sits out front anyway. We will be returning to 30th Street station by the recreation path through Schuylkill River Park. There has been some trail enhancement/expansion in that area over the last few years, as part of the "Schuylkill Banks" program, which is very nice. Unless group consensus indicates otherwise, we will plan on arriving back at 30th Street Station between 3pm and 4pm. (I'll be ready for a pint or two at Bridgewater's by then, I imagine.) Participation is at your own risk. Please dress appropriate to the weather.

This was a wonderful and diverse group. I had some great conversations with many people. Thank you for the walk through the city, the company, and enjoying a meal afterwards. Hoping to do this again soon. Thank you, Jed for your willingness to lead this venture.
