Open 101: TV Application Session: Lets build Smart TV Apps!

The Television. One of the most influencial inventions of recent history. Modern day televisions have entered a new evolutionary period. What once was a "series of tubes" controlled by a central frequency band, now has evolved with the ability to be under full control by we, the people.

TV application development platforms like Samsung SmartTV, Google TV, FiOS TV Widgets, and LG Apps TV make developing TV apps just as easy as developing web apps! Lets build our first Television App!

There are a number of ways to approach building applications for Television. Depending on the type of User interaction (e.g. playing a game, reading social stream, sending a message), you want to consider the best software and hardware considerations for getting the job done.

During this session, we will discuss Development on the LG and Samsung TV Platforms, and attempt to build an application that works on mobile, desktop, and TV platforms.

Application: LunchMenu

Application Description: I often find myself watching TV, and an advert or TV show sparks a reminder for me to grab an item from the Grocery or Hardware store. 30 years ago when this same scenario occurred, one would simply reach over to the nearest nightstand where more often than not, he or she would have a pen and pad and could write a reminder note. Today, that pen and pad is often a bit further out of reach.

The LunchList Application will be a Mobile, Web and Television Application that one could use to jot down items to get from the store.

During the session we will build LunchList and the source code will be available for those brave enough to follow along on their localhost.
