On Monday, May 11th we're holding a Meetup event at Indy Hall with Sigurd Magnusson, one of the co-founders of SilverStripe. If you are Web Producer, Designer, or Developer interested in Open Source CMS solutions, this event is a great oppourtunity to get engaged with the SilverStripe project. Sigurd will give a presentation about SilverStipe, including a sneak preview of some new features, and then we'll open up discussion to the community for questions and feedback.

SilverStripe is a user friendly and Open Source CMS that has an objected oriented (PHP5) MVC architecture. For those of you new to CMS development, its installation and set-up is similar to Wordpress, however it has some interesting points of difference:

For Developers: SilverStripe is built on Sapphire, an object-oriented PHP5 web framework designed to let you focus on your data and business logic.

For Designers: The templating engine is simple and clean, allowing for easy implementation of custom-designed sites. Template files are separated from the code so you can focus on what you love - design! The package is extremely approachable for someone with basic CSS/MySQL/PHP knowledge.

For Editors/Administrators: The CMS Administrative interface is clean and intuitive making it usable for Content Editors right out-of-the-box. Silverstripe gives editors complete control over their content, including a slick point-and-click form builder, allowing for quick and easy implementation of customized forms on your website. Other features include blog functionality, customized sidebar content on a per-page basis, and total control over URL structure, page titles, and metatdata on a per-page basis, along with simple asset management.

We'll give Gullifty's a try this month -- their indoor beer selection is much better than outdoors.

There's no specific program or topic, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend -- newbies, career programmers considering picking up PHP, expert developers, etc. We've historically had a pretty good mix of skill and experience levels, which leads to everyone learning something from someone else.

Bring your ideas, questions, problems, and . If you're looking for a PHP job, you might find some good ideas and leads. If you need a PHP programmer to add to your team, you might find one here!

This month we're continuing our trend of crashing other, related groups' events. We had a speaker from Adobe lined up to present on Flex, but it turns out there's another Flash/Flex speaker in town that same evening, so we're joining forces. We're co-meeting with the Philadelphia Flex User Group and joining their presentation.

This month we're co-meeting with the Philly Standards Organization - front-end developers passionate about web standards. Every PHP web developer has to interact with HTML/CSS front-end code at times, either writing it by hand, generating it in PHP, or interacting with code from another front-end developer. Learning their trade will be beneficial to any PHP developer working on websites.

From their website:

Come and join us for a presentation from, Tim Shortt, one of the Philadelphia Standards Organization’s first members (I think he bought the second round of drinks). The presentation will focus on some well known sites and if they pass or fail when it comes to standards.

Besides being instrumental in helping the PSO get its start, Tim currently is a Front End Developer at G2 Interactive and has over 7 years of experience developing web sites and applications for small businesses, in-house IT departments, and interactive design agencies.
