Wanted to make sure folks knew about a sponsorship opportunity
for people in Philly interested in attending the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting conference
in Louisville, February 28-March 3. For those pythonistas interested in learning more about how to apply those skills in journalism, it's a great opportunity to meet folks, attend sessions, and do some hands-on trainings. There are several sessions related to python and R (though the more in-depth sessions are sold out).
The Center for Public Interest Journalism has a FIVE sponsorships available for people who are interested in wrangling data for public interest journalism. You do not have to currently work with a news organization to apply, but you must have a demonstrable interest in the field (personal projects, examples of hackathon projects, etc). The application is pretty brief, but it is due MONDAY at 5pm. Full details here:
Apologies for the short notice, but please let me know if you have any questions or anything. I am just a big fan of the conference. I went to the NICAR conference last year and it was an exceptional learning experience. Philly is becoming more and more of a leader in this news development community (see also: the recent announcement of Knight News Challenge winners
), and so it'll be great to have a group representing Philly at the conference.
Hope to see you there, or at the next project night!
