Friends - Fergie's Pub will be hosting a "Burns Night" tribute to the late great Scottish poet Robert Burns, featuring poetry readings and live music performances on Saturday January 18th starting at 10pm. We will begin meeting at Fergie's on the 2nd Floor at 9pm. This is a FREE event, no cover charge!
Burns Night is a celebration of the life & work of Robert Burns. Its an annual event held on or around the poet's birthday. Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns (January 25, 1759 to July 21, 1796) wrote in the Scots language, but much of his writing is also in English and light Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. His most famous poem (and song) is the New Years Eve standard "Auld Lang Syne". The first Burns Night in history was held on 1802 and many of the traditions from that night continue to present day.
Poetry, music, celebrating, and drinking... sounds like fun!

If you are not familiar with Fergie's Pub, its one of those terrific hang-out bars that Philly used to be famous for. However over the last decade or so bars like Fergie's seem to be an endangered species as Center City seems to be bursting with the newest fake Irish pubs and martini bars. If you longingly remember what a favorite neighborhood bar used to be like, you're going to love Fergie's Pub.
We will be meeting on the 2nd Floor at Fergie's Pub. Look for our MeetUp signs or call me if you have trouble finding the group.
see you there,
PS. the Artistic Curator of the evening is Janet Bressler. She along with her many Artist friends will be performing all sorts of music and reciting poetry. If you are interested in participating in the performance then please contact her ASAP. Janet is welcoming people to join the celebration as performers (like reciting poetry or jamming with other musicians to some classic rock songs), but you must arrange this with her in advance. You can tell Janet that you will be attending the Burns Night with our MeetUp group and that David gave you her contact info:
