Two Mtn Hike - Minsi/Tammany - very hard!!

Driving Directions:

°476 North to Allentown exit

°22 East to PA-33 North to 209 North °209 North to 80 East

°Continue on Interstate 80 eastbound.

°Take PA Exit 310. At the traffic light at the end of the ramp, continue straight. This is Broad Street.

°At the next light in the village, turn left onto Route 611 south.

°Continue a few blocks in the village and look for the Deerhead Inn on the right. Turn right at the Inn onto Mountain Road. Take the next left into the trailhead parking area.

I was asked to plan a tough hike. A hike that would seperate the men from the boys. One that would make you sweat the whole way and then some once you're done too. (Within a quick drive of Philly).  This is that hike.

We will meet in the Lake Lenape/Mt Minsi trailhead parking area (look for a car with a meetup sign) and then hike up and down Mt Minsi which is a 5.4 mile loop and should take us about 2.5 hours.  There'll be significant elevation, rocky terrain and some rock scrambling and we'll be going up 1060 feet over 2 miles.  MAKE SURE YOU CAN HANDLE THIS!

once we're done with that loop, we'll drive over to the Dunnfield Parking area and climb Mt Tammany. We'll take the red dot trail up and the blue dot trail down.  We'll climb to the peak of 1500 feet over 2 miles for a total of 3.5 miles and about 2 hours and cover 1100 feet of elevation. There'll be steep inclines, rocky terrain, some rock scrambling and a lot of sweating especially since this will be during the hottest part of the day.  MAKE SURE YOU CAN HANDLE THIS!

At the end of this hike we'll be able to sit, jump or just relax in the dunnfield creek. There are some great spots where you can just sit and relax in the water and let the water run over your legs, or you can get more into it by jumping off a 20ft high rock into a 10 ft pool below. There's no better way to end a long hard hike than in some nice cool water.

What to bring:

Water - lots of it! and don't forget that we'll be able to fill up between mountains (maybe keep a cooler in your car with multiple containers)

Sunscreen & bugspray

Snacks to eat while hiking & lunch while on top of Mt Tammany (something simple - 20 minute break only)

Camera - there'll be some good views from atop either mountain

water shoes/old sneakers - you'll want these if you plan to go in the creek at all

hiking shorts that you can wear into the water at the end - you'll want these if you plan to go in the creek at all

towel - to keep your car seat dry after going in the creek

ENERGY - you're going to need it!

DO NOT COME ON THIS HIKE IF YOU CANNOT HIKE 10 MILES, TWO MOUNTAINS, A TOTAL OF 2100 FEET OF ELEVATION, 5-6 hours OR HAVE TROUBLE ON ROCKY TERRAIN.

This is NOT for beginners.
