The Older I Get, The Less I Know

I think the title says it all.  When I was younger, I was sure about many things.  The older I get, the more complex life appears, and the more uncertain I am about the "facts" under my feet. In fact, I may deny that there are any facts at all!

So, this discussion is somewhat about illusions (the things that you were sure about at one point) and somewhat about growth and perhaps about becoming more flexible (in some ways) as we engage with the world more.

But perhaps some of you will reveal things that you are now sure about, which were uncertain in your eyes in the past.  Do we substitute newly discovered certainties and abandon old ones?

As some of you know, it costs me about $144 each year to run this meetup.  If you have the resources and the inclination, a small contribution ($5-$10) each year would help defray this cost. Think of this as my asking you to give me a quarter at each meeting!

You can find a map of exactly how to get to 95 Summit street by clicking here. Note that much of Summit Street is Resident-Only parking, even on Sunday.  The police may ticket your car even if the street is completely empty, with 100 available parking spaces.  Silly wabbits.

You may find parking on Maple between Summit and South Union, or on Willard between Main and Cliff.  I understand that Champlain College does not enforce their permit-only parking in their parking lots on the weekends.

Always interesting to hear other people's point of view.

I was reminded how important it is to remain sensitive to other group members in our responses.

A good discussion. I had expected more reference to attitudes and behavior toward aging. Focus was almost exclusively on personal experience of life and change. Regret what I said about sugar coating of reality for children. it was superficial. We sugar-coat reality for everyone--euphemisms for all.

Only my second meetup. I had a great time and will attend again for sure. The "host" did a great job and all the attendees had interesting things to say. Not sure I recieved any life changing wisdom, but the talk and the people made it very worthwhile.

Sorry, I can't make it. Planning my dad's 90th, got behind with time and too many things to do! Wish I was there!

Darn...I was looking forward to more meetings - But. On 2/26 I had an ecumenical stroke (both sides). Went from Fletcher Allen later to my interim home of Starr
Farm on North Ave. They're working me hard! My husband ended up in hospital with pneumonia two days later. We're now roommates at Starr Farm! Hoping to go back to Cathedral square Assisted Living in a couple of weeks. "Best laid plans..."

Oh boy, this sounds good. And I thought I was the only one who got more confused as time rolled on.
