Surveillance and the Right to Privacy

This one is from Cassidy, but it has been on everyone's minds...

In light of the recent Edward Snowden leak of PRISM surveillance system...Is this the beginning of the dystopian reality from the movie "Brazil"? Are all citizens inherently guilty and potentially dangerous enough to need to be watched? Do you still trust Apple, Google, Microsoft, Skype, Facebook, YouTube, and Dropbox with your personal data? Is the terrorist threat as severe as the government claims? Will this kind of surveillance even help detect terrorists? Does surveillance infringe on our rights? What do we have to hide?
