Book Club Potluck - "The Blank Slate" Group C

I will host the April 19 discussion of Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature. Richard recommended this classic. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/Blank-Slate-Modern-Denial-Nature/dp/0142003344/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362841453&sr=1-1&keywords=the+blank+slate+steven+pinker.

The other option for April is The Beginning of Infinity by David Deutsch. See the April 12 Meetup.

The May poll results are in, and the winners are: Shakti's pick The Aristotle Adventure by Burgess Laughlin and my pick The Better Angels of Our Natures by Steven Pinker. Karl has volunteered to host one of the May Meetups. Similarly, Kit has agreed to host in June, Marc in July, and Richard, again, in August. Let me know if you'd be willing to host. I need two volunteers per month

Since we are always planning ahead, I've started the poll for our June selections. You'll find that under the "More" menu at the top of this page. Anyone who is a member of this Meetup can submit a title for the poll. Just send me an email or post on this site, and I'll add your selection. However, I will only include one title from each member. If you submitted a title last month, I've rolled it over into the new poll. If you want to change your recommendation, just let me know.

As always, it's essential that everyone who comes to the meeting reads the book in its entirety. Please also bring a food or drink item for the potluck.

Happy reading!

For those on the wait list, there are open slots in Mark's new meeting for the Blank Slate: same day, different place. Please change your RSVP to this one if you switch and shrink the wait list for others.
    Cheers!

Looks like you need a bigger table! ;-)
Actually, we do have enough to have 2 sessions on this book - what do you think?

OK, it looks like I'm it! I can host an 'overflow' BS meeting same night - 19th. (whether I can get the book finished is another story!).

Am very interested in all areas you cover. Find it a real joy to mingle with others of similar curiosities. Judy

Cameron--how come there are only 8 spots, instead of the usual 10???

This book looks fantastic - can't wait to read it.

The Blank Slate is one of my favorite books. Pinker is one of my favorite writers and my favorite Pinker book is The Blank State. I read it a few years ago and then listen to audiobook two years ago. I was so excited when I saw this book as a possible choice. Now I'm very disappointed that the spaces are filled up and I'm on the wait list.
