Book Club Potluck - "The Blank Slate" Group M

  • Apr 19, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Mark Hopkins has agreed to host a second meeting for the April 19 discussion of Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial of Human Nature. Richard recommended this classic. Here's a link:

The other option for April is The Beginning of Infinity by David Deutsch. See the April 12 Meetup.

The May poll results are in, and the winners are: Shakti's pick The Aristotle Adventure by Burgess Laughlin and my pick The Better Angels of Our Natures by Steven Pinker. Karl has volunteered to host one of the May Meetups. Similarly, Kit has agreed to host in June, Marc in July, and Richard, again, in August. Let me know if you'd be willing to host. I need two volunteers per month

Since we are always planning ahead, I've started the poll for our June selections. You'll find that under the "More" menu at the top of this page. Anyone who is a member of this Meetup can submit a title for the poll. Just send me an email or post on this site, and I'll add your selection. However, I will only include one title from each member. If you submitted a title last month, I've rolled it over into the new poll. If you want to change your recommendation, just let me know.

As always, it's essential that everyone who comes to the meeting reads the book in its entirety. Please also bring a food or drink item for the potluck.

Happy reading!

It's simple. RSVP yes to the Meetup, read the book, and then bring a dinner item to Mark's place on the 19th.

Thanks Mark. I listened to audiobook almost exactly 3 years ago and read the book back shortly after it was published. I've read most all of Pinker's books. I'm putting it on my iPhone. But 20 hours long don't know if I'll finish it before meetup. Happen to be listening and reading many other books, too. But I've read and listened to it so I may just watch Pinker on youtube talking about it for review.

Thanks, Mark, for volunteering to host another session. This is a popular book.
