What is the meaning and purpose of life?
Has your answer to this question changed over time?
Are you still working on your answer? If so, rest assured you are not alone. :)
This event will be an opportunity for us to share our insights, theories, thoughts, and experiences with regards to this topic, and explore what some of the great philosophers of the past and present have to say as well.(As usual, further questions and quotes will be provided to the discussion facilitators).
The successful formula for our events involves having one discussion facilitator at each table. Facilitators help to keep the conversation on topic, and they are provided with discussion notes. Of course, our facilitators still have just as much of an opportunity to contribute their two cents to the discussions). So if you appreciate what this group has to offer and you'd like to help us out then please add a comment when you RSVP for this event indicating that you'd like to help facilitate. If you've already RSVP'd for this event, then click 'Change RSVP', then add your comment.
No formal philosophy experience or specialized knowledge is required to participate in any of our events (either as a facilitator or as a regular guest). All that is required is that you are open-minded and respectful of your fellow guests. :)
If you would like to attend this event then you need to sign up as a member and RSVP for this event on-line through this website.
You do not need a PayPal account in order to pay for this event. (Look for the link that allows you to pay with a credit card without having a PayPal account).
Latecomers will not be admitted (after 6:45).
Admission does not include the cost of your dinner.
The structured (facilitated) portion of the event lasts for 90 min.
Why am I charging for these events you may ask? Please view the FAQs listed on the Philosophy Dinners home page
Arrival time is 6:30pm at which time everyone will be provided a seat at our reserved tables. We will start our discussions at 6:45 once people have settled and have ordered their drinks/food. As a courtesy to your fellow attendees and to the facilitators, please arrive on time.
Events are Scheduled Based on the Needs of our Members
My thanks to Alan for recommending this new venue! Also, I'm scheduling this event on a Saturday since I've been told that many of our members can't make it out on Wednesdays. However, if you would like me to continue to schedule events on Wednesday's as well, please let me know. I'm starting to schedule two events per month in some cities (one weekday night, one Saturday) and again it's all based on the needs of the members.
The ongoing experiment continues!
If you're not already aware, Philosophy Dinners is a non-profit initiative with the mission to use practical philosophy to bring together strangers in order to build a stronger sense of community around the world. Over the last few weeks I've coordinated successful events in Sydney, Melbourne, San Francisco, New York, and London. You can view the feedback members who attended those events by clicking on the link below:
This group is for people who value and enjoy deeper discussions with amazing people and who are also willing to rise to the occasion by joining us to help make these discussion opportunities an ongoing reality.
The events held in this group are all about having fun nights of great people and 'deeper' discussions over dinner in a charming restaurant. This Meetup group was created by Glen Brauer as part of a non-profit global initiative using practical philosophy to bring together strangers to build community. This Meetup group is now part of a network of over 6,000 members located in over 45 Meetup groups around the world. (Click here to view other locations).
- 6 people at each table (so everyone has a chance to speak)
- 1 discussion facilitator at each table (members take turns being facilitators)
- thought-provoking questions (discussion notes) are provided by Glen Brauer to the facilitators in order to stimulate the discussions.
The feedback from these events held around the world has been very positive. (Click here to view feedback). There are no membership fees but a small fee is required when signing up for events which goes towards Meetup costs, the time required to research and produce the discussions notes, booking restaurant reservations, scheduling the events, and coordinating the facilitators.
If this sounds interesting to you then click "Join Us" on the top-right of this screen then RSVP to events when they are posted. Members receive email notifications when new events are scheduled.
