I realized yesterday Meetup hadn't been sending me any email reminders. It was due to some temporary problem it was having sending to my address. I might have been able to make this meetup but I had totally forgot about it. Bummer!

Great photos everyone, and lovely model. Wish I could have made it. Does anyone know if you have to pay to shoot at that local, pay admission, permission, etc? Also the exact address for the Ranch? Thanks.
0 · May 7
Hi Danny, no you don't have to pay as long as it's a non paid shoot. You can download the waiver from thier website and get directions as well.
This was a great experience! I have learned from each person there. The biggest thing I got out of this, aside from the natural lighting techniques was how to coach your model and making her relax and build confidence. Awesome location.... i didn't know this place existed!!

The location is really cool too can't wait to go back.

excellent model she is very photogenic!!! Makes getting great shots easy.

Agreed! Only next time I leave all the extra crap in the car or at home!
Excellent shoot, love the location, the model was great.
Hello everyone, just a quick reminder about tomorrows shoot. Gear, camera, flash if you have it. reflectors and diffusers if you have them. a telephoto lens 100mm to 300mm if you have it. And please bring the $10 in cash. See you all tomorrow.

Hello all, we finally have a model and location pinned down. we are going to shoot at leo carrillo in carlsbad from 11-1 or as long as we can. The cost is $10 per person so please have cash when you arrive. Thanks for being patient on this one.

You know this! If we are able to shoot at leo carrillo i will meet you guys at carl strauss at 11:30, if we end up in la cresta i will just meet you guys up there.
Sounds good :)
I will try to get in touch with leo carrillo again tomorrow. I will let you guys know what i find out.
Hi Tim, this will be my first rodeo, is there a specific gear list aside from bring own cameras? Thank you
Hi Jose, i would recomend a telephoto lens something in the 100mm-300mm range, also if you have any speed lights i would bring them along. Not sure what your shooting but i am bringing my two canon speed lights with wireless triggers and will let any canon shooters take turns with them. I am also bringing reflectors the diffusers for all natural light shots which i will also share with the group.

What time are we starting ?
0 · April 28, 2014
Sorry, will be in Santa Monica for the weekend :-(
Hello everyone, we have finally booked a model for our shoot, wow that was close i thought we were going to have to scrap it, so a big thank you to terry. I am trying to get all the details on shooting at leo carillo park, it looks amazing, however they have not responded to my message yet. if we can't shoot their we will be shooting in la cresta and harveston park. stay tuned for further details, and thank you ardie for the location suggestion.
I want to get experience. I'm hungry to learn and get to know other photographers and be able to network into the community.

Hi David, Thanks for the link. The event ounds like fun and I really liked the seminars that are planned. I signed up and got my tickets. I'll see you there.
This just caught my eye and may catch your, too, The OC Photo Summit is the day before our shoot. It's a free event but I suggest registering just in case. It looks to be a lot of fun and quite informational.Check it out: http://ocsummits.com/

Sounds fun David, thanks for the info.
Yes Stella , This property Was owned by "The Cisco Kid". John , did your group have the required permit? It is posted on the Carlsbad City website that group shoots are welcome with check-in and permits. The rules are also posted, larger props are prohibited. No mention of light stands and photography gear.

I wasn't with a group, Ardie, and all I had with me were two speedlights.
Leo Carrillo - would that be the gentleman who played in "The Cisco Kid" way back when? Either way, sounds like a good future event-site ....

I have an old gallery still up from a shoot at Leo Carrillo. They do NOT like photographers there especially with any equipment, so a meetup with models...Unlikely to be allowed. We got "helped" off the property when taking the last couple photos here with bare OCF speedlights...http://www.thephotogr...
Has a location for the May shoot being selected? If not I would suggest Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park in Carlsbad. I never been there, However I here it has a variety of locations ideal for shoots.
Hi ardie, thanks for the info, I have already chosen our location, but I will definitely check this out.
Have the models been chosen fro the shoot?
Hi kieth, we have not chosen the models yet.
Hi Jenny, have you heard back from any of the models?
Will be out of town...so I can't make it. Bummer.

No luck on the studio in Temecula. He went from a thriving studio to out of business since the last time I talked to him. Sorry
0 · April 9, 2014
No problem ardie, thanks for trying. We will just shoot on location.
Hi, there is a studio inTemecula that may be available. will check tomorrow. It would be a good location possibly shot there for couple of hours and then go a couple blocks away to Harveston park which is a popular location for high school prom pictures.
1 · April 8, 2014
That's good news ardie, if you can get rates and availability that would really help.
That would be great Ardie. I hope it works out. I would really like to do some studio shooting.
0 · April 8, 2014
Hi Danny, thank you for getting the rate info, I think that's going to be too expensive, bamboo was only $100 for 4 hrs, and the models r $75 each. I think at this point we should just shoot natural light, I will scout some locations.
I understand. It might not even be available since a production company is renting it out for a couple months straight.
Hello all, I have some bad news, bamboo shoot studios is booked for the entire month of May and then the owner is selling the property. So I will look for another reasonably priced studio, if anyone knows of one let me know, if we can't find one we will do the shoot on location with natural light and speedlights.

Rick Gould of North San Diego Photography collective has a great studio in Oceanside. Lets get some feedback on this so we can make it happen:-)
What r the rental rates?
The wedding I need to attend is in Costa Mesa at 4pm. So...I have two questions regarding this Meetup: 1). It's 11am - What Time? 2). How much $, exactly?
0 · April 6, 2014
Hi john, the studio rental is $100 for 4 hrs, so we will be shooting from 11-3 and it will be $20 per person.
Do we pay in advanced or can we pay on the spot?
Hi Danny, you can pay on the spot, however I would prefer to get the money in advance, that way I know your serious and I don't have to deal with collecting money at the shoot.
Works for me.
1 · April 6, 2014
The 4th works for me. I hope this date can work for the majority of our group.
Unfortunately I have a wedding to attend on the 4th. But it sounded ideal to do the hike in the blooming, comfortable weather of spring and not during the dry hot summer. A studio shoot works anytime since it is indoors.
The 4th works.
Hey guys, how does may 4th sound, I'm pretty booked toward the end of may?
Hi Tim, Are you aware that this new date is Mother's Day. I think we could have a much better turn out if you selected another date. Most of us have families and to go on a photo shoot on that day would create a lot of problems. Hopefully something can be worked out. Thanks, Norm
1 · April 5, 2014
Hi norm, I didn't realize this was Mother's Day, I will see what I can do, I am running out of possibilities on this one.
0 · April 5, 2014
Hi guys, i had to push this one back a week, one of the models couldn't make it on the 18th.
Too bad. Not only did I want to do this but it's on my birthday and as expected this is the week I will be out of town.
0 · April 4, 2014
Sorry John, if i like bamboo studios we will definitely go back.
Just checked my calendar - Bummer. I'll be in Sedona that weekend, but with camera, of course.
thats awesome, i miss sedona. Have a great trip, hope to see you at the next one.
Is there any way we can see the models, as in samples of their work before the shoot? Thank you.
No, these are friends of mine that have volunteered to help us out, they are not professional models.
