This is an easy hike around the circumference of Lookout Mountain (about 2.6 miles). But, following that, most of us will trek to the top and back. Part of the ascending trail is steep, but short (1/8 mile each way) and offers spectacular views.
Our hikes are generally at a pace conducive to social banter of interest to heathens, and allowing for time for photography. Expect this hike to last 2-3 hours… allowing plenty of time to arrive for Turkey dinners.
How to find us:Meet at the Lookout Mountain Park trailhead parking lot… If lost or late, my cell is[masked]-5945.
To get there:From freeway 51 take the Cactus Rd. exit west a mile to N. Cave Creek Rd. . . From I-17, take the E. Thunderbird Rd. exit east 4 miles to N. Cave Creek Rd… Then go north on N. Cave Creek Rd. 1 mile to E. Sharon and turn left (west) and go ½ mile to N. 18th St and turn right and travel north about ½ mile to the end. The parking lot is on the right.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR CARPOOLERS:
Carpooling can save gas but also enhance the social experience. If you’d like to carpool, you must contact others for arrangements. You could email members or post on this announcement page comments.
Following the hike, those not needing to head off for Turkey-day dinners etc. will likely reconvene for rehydration nearby.
This group is mainly to get like-minded individuals connected and together to socialize. As Atheists/Agnostics/Humanists/Freethinkers may feel like the minority in almost all regions of America, statistically we are doing pretty good. This is an attempt to reach out to those in the greater Phoenix area offering a chance to meet others, to discuss positive activism in the community and politics and build a network of thinking, rational people. We'd like this to be a safe landing spot for life long atheists or those who may have just left a religious group and are looking for a place with open minded people.
