Goldmine Mountain dominates the northern section of the park, and the San Tan Mountains cut across the southwestern corner. In places, chain-fruit cholla stands higher than your head. Elsewhere, clumps of teddy-bear cholla glow in the sunlight, looking almost soft enough to pet. (But don't try it.)

Our hike will climb to the saddle of Goldmine Mountain (GM trail) and return along the Dynamite trail (DN trail). This will be a loop of a little over 4 miles with elevation gains totaling about 600 ft. or so. .. . Oh yeah we'll visit the small graveyard also.

This oasis of natural beauty on the flanks of the southeast Valley is characterized by dramatic cliffs and rugged hills, meandering washes and rolling bajada, home to lush desert foliage and a surprising amount of wildlife.

Our hikes are generally at a pace conducive to social banter of interest to heathens, and allowing for time for photography of the local geology and wildlife. Expect this hike to last 3-4 hours.

Next time, we can just take Power Rd south to Hunt Hwy, instead of all those twists and turns. That's how we left.
