HIKE thru box canyon & petroglyph adventure

  • January 16, 2011 · 10:00 AM

Any easy walk around box canyon at South Mountain Park allowing for discovery of ancient native petroglyphs and social banter. What are petroglyphs? ....
http://blogs.phoenixn... The most comprehensive presentation I know of is "Landscape of the Spirits"...Bostwick & Krocek. I'll bring it along. To get there, take CENTRAL AVE. SOUTH all the way south past Scorpion Gulch, enter the South Mountain Park and take the first left onto Phoenix South Mountain Park Rd. and follow it to the last building on the road (rest rooms)… very near the end. The kick off point will be there at the end of the parking lot at the Activity Complex. Plan on a trip to a nearby watering hole afterward for food and drink..... TBD Another nearby attraction is the Mystery Castle...

FYI for the pet owners - if you'd like a larger, high res photo of your fur kid(s), send me a PM through Meetup with e-mail address I can send attachments to.

Excellent. I am going to become a regular, and I am not a hiker.

Another awesome hike led by Al. Great chat, petroglyphs, and some brave quadrupeds. Looking forward to the next!

Great to see so many planning to come. I will provide a handout with popular interpretations of common petroglyphs as well as a few notes regarding their locations. Some are on upper canyon walls so binoculars would be useful.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
