A bit of a loner, I once centered my social life in the loosely structured, low-demand arena of the friendly neighborhood bar. As I haven't yet found a local saloon where the conversations rise much above the level of "Who's your favorite Nascar driver?", I'm thinking a group such as yours a likely conduit to occasional good conversation over a beer (and joining your hikes might get me off my duff for a little exercise).
No opinion at this early stage.
I admit to a reluctance for commitments to highly structured/scheduled activities (every other Thursday evening, e.g.? Can't say what Thursday after next might otherwise bring), but I could use some good company over a beer and a brisk hike now and then. If relevant, I'm a reader of wide range, though a poor discourser in a formal sense, such as is expected in book clubs. I'm always ready to join -- or merely listen to -- a lusty debate on politics, philosophy, etc.
