Calling all Meetup Golfers to the South Mountain area! Don’t let me down, this is my 1st group outing as Assistant Organizer. We’re heading to one of my favorite courses, Club West Golf Club. Here’s what they have to say for themselves… it’s all true. "The beauty and serenity of Club West Golf Club, established as one of the premier Phoenix golf courses, puts your mind at ease. Located on the sunny side of South Mountain, the beautiful Sonoran desert surrounds you. The gorgeous surroundings of Club West Golf Club distinguish the course from other Phoenix golf courses as it has consistently been ranked in the top 20 golf courses in Arizona. Each hole at Club West is very distinctive with some dramatic elevation changes. The peaceful tranquility of each hole is enhanced by the fact that there are few contiguous fairways. With four sets of tees to choose from, the course can play from as short as 4,985 yards in length to as much as 7,142 yards. The course's elevation and beauty distinguishes itself from other Phoenix, Arizona golf courses. The tee boxes on holes 15 and 17 rise as much as 100 feet above the course level so bring your camera, because the views of the South Mountain range to the north and the Estrella Mountains to the west make perfect backdrops for the special photo!” Website is: www.clubwestgolf.com Club West is headquartered just 7 1/2 miles west of the I-10 Freeway on Chandler Blvd. Date for the event is Sunday, October 11th at 7:30 am arrival time, 8:00 starting tee times. Cost is $41 per person through PayPal. This will cover your green fee for 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls and $1 towards Meetup fees. Here is the important date to remember: October 3, 2009 at 10:00 pm – Last day to RSVP and pay for the event. Another important note: We are going to have a "longest putt" contest to be held during the round. So, better start practicing that putting! See you there!

So you've been out on the course a few times now, lost a few balls, cursed more than once but still can't seem to hit the ball straight or make your putts. Well, then maybe it's time for a few lessons. I've arranged with the PGA Tour Superstore in Scottsdale to provide us with a 6-session, group lesson. Beginning Thursday, September 24th at 6:30pm, we will meet for one hour every other week. That way, you can practice what you learned on the off weeks. Here is a schedule of the sessions and what you will learn that night: Week 1, Thursday, September 24 @ 6:30pm - Meet & greet, etiquette, rules and handicaps Week 2, Thursday, October 8th @ 6:30pm - Short Game 1 (putting and 40-80 yd. punch shots) Week 3, Thursday, October 22nd @ 6:30pm - Short Game 2 (bunker play and chipping) Week 4, Thursday, November 5th @ 6:30pm - Iron Play Week 5, Thursday, November 19th @ 6:30pm - Driver / Fairway Woods Week 6, Thursday, December 3rd @ 6:30pm - Skills Challenge Week (Closest to the pin, bunker challenge, putting challenge, driving challenge) How much will this cost you ask? This is the best part. The cost of this 6-session lesson is $50 plus a $2 Paypal fee. And best of all, you will get a $15 gift card back from the PGA Store. That works out to be around $6 per session. WHAT A DEAL!!! And you will actually learn something. No worries about the weather either as all this will be held indoors on their simulators. I am going to cap this event at 20 participants and the deadline to sign up and pay is Friday, September 18th. See you there!!!

Hey Phoenix Golfers: I can't think of a better way to celebrate Labor Day than to spend part of your Labor Day weekend laboring in the West Valley at the Wigwam Golf Club's Blue Course. OK, maybe a weekend in Hawaii might sound better but trust me, this is the next best thing ;) "Among Robert Trent Jones' contributions to the world of golf was the concept of the 'signature course.' His work at The Blue Course is testament to the ability of a great designer to create courses with such different character. The Blue has been described as tricky and subtle. Playing to a length just over 6,000 yards, but a par of 70 the test can be a bit deceiving. Here is a creative course: one full of decisions and thought-provoking strategy. The hallmark of Mr. Jones’ design can be found in the array of deep and perilous bunkers, ponds and dog-leg fairways." The date of the event is Saturday, September 5th at 7:30am. Please arrive on time. Cost of the event is $42.50 per person through Paypal. This will cover your green fee for 18-holes of golf, practice balls, cart and $1 towards Meetup fees. Fellow golfers: Since we liked the Trilogy course at Vistancia so much, I thought we would give the other one a shot. We're going to the southeast part of the valley and take our game to Trilogy at Power Ranch in Gilbert. As was the case at Vistancia, I'm sure it will be somewhat toasty out there. To combat that, let's play an easy, relaxing scramble. Here's what their website says: "Eighteen holes of spectacular Arizona championship golf meander their way through the cleansed desert of the Queen Creek wash, following with every turn the subtle elevation changes of the area. The par-71 Trilogy Golf Club at Power Ranch located in the southeast Phoenix Valley was designed by golf course architect Dick Bailey and stretches over 6,700 yards. Natural undulations and strategically placed mounding combine with Trilogy's natural setting to create a golf course that is able to both challenge the accomplished player and accommodate the novice. Trilogy Golf Club at Power Ranch offers a collection of golf shots as full of trepidation as they are drama, and challenges the player to utilize the imagination, in addition to nearly every club in the bag." The date of the event is Saturday, August 8th at 7:30am. Please arrive on time. Cost of the event is $40.00 per person through Paypal. This will cover your green fee for 18-holes of golf, cart and $1 towards Meetup fees. Once again, RSVP with a 'MAYBE'. Remember a 'MAYBE' RSVP means you are committed to coming and not just holding a place just in case you can make it. Once I receive your payment, I will change your RSVP to a 'YES'. Here are some important dates to remember: July 31, 2009 at 10:00pm - Last day to RSVP for this event August 2, 2009 - All payments must be received by this date

OK gang. We're going back to the northwest part of the valley and take our game to Trilogy at Vistancia. Here's what their website says: "Crafted by renowned golf course architect Gary Panks, the championship design at Trilogy Golf Club draws upon distinctive land features and a backdrop of stunning Arizona scenery to result in a truly extraordinary setting. With more than 70 pronounced and transitional bunkers that feed gently into the golf course's fairways and native areas, Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia highly rewards careful planning and precise execution by the golfer. There are five different tee boxes from which to choose on this unique 18-hole, par 72-championship golf course. Tees range from 5,573 yards to 7,259 yards, allowing players of every skill level to enjoy this exceptional test of golf." The date of the event is Saturday, July 11th at 8:30am. Please arrive on time. Cost of the event is $46.65 per person through Paypal. This will cover your green fee for 18-holes of golf, cart and range balls. Once again, RSVP with a 'MAYBE'. Hey boys and girls: I figured since I was planning on attending this, I might as well make a group event out of it. It's the PGA Play Golf America Day event at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club. This is also a way for you newbies to get a chance to meet me and other members before you go out there and hack it up with us. Here's a brief description on the event: Play Golf America Day is a fun, free, festival featuring PGA Professional instruction, clinics, equipment demos from leading manufacturers, special events and more! Perfect for new, casual and avid golfers. Activities for people of all ages and abilities. Let's plan to meet at the front near the bag drop area at 9:00am and go from there. Afterwards, if you guys want to hang out, we can find a fancy joint, grab a bite to eat and mingle for a little. I'll send out my cell phone number to all those who RSVP'd 'YES' the night before in case you need it. Hope to see you there. http://phoenix.bizjo urnals.com/phoenix/s tories/2009/04/13/da ily35.html Henry
