Garden of Tomorrow - Community Garden Volunteer Help Needed

Enjoy a FREE Lunch, light gardening, and support one of our biggest partners, Tiger Mountain Foundation.  Even though we have St. Mary's on the second Saturday, some may want to do the community garden project as well, or can't make the afternoon at St. Mary's, but are free in the morning. Tiger Mountain Foundation works with establishing and nourishing various community garden projects in disadvantaged neighborhoods in the Phoenix metro area.

We will be working in the community garden. This event will also feature local talent from an intergenerational, multi-cultural mix of community supporters. This is a phenomenal morning of experiencing what community is all about!  Everyone who has participated in this event have been impressed with the project and time we spent there. Volunteers and members of the community gather to work on this project, including a great group of seniors from the apartments next door. You are educated as to the significance of how a community garden can impact the community, we then work in the garden for about an hour and a half and then there is a community cookout and entertainment going on when we are done. The food for the cookout is excellent! How can you beat vegetables that are cooked right after being picked?

Please bring a refillable water container if you have one. We are trying to be eco-friendly and not using as many bottles.  There will be a water cooler to refill your container or bottle with.

Plan on being there from 8:45a am to around 11:00 am. There is no age limit for this event! Bring your kids! They will provide shovels and rakes for the volunteers to use. Please feel free to bring old gardening supplies (shovels, rakes, etc.) that you can donate to this organization, as they can always use more. They are also in need of folding chairs and lawn chairs.

This is what a couple of our members had to say about this project: "With much spirit, love, and humor :), Darren did an awesome job coordinating this volunteer effort. Garden of Hope sets a prime example of what can be done when people live with heart and put effort into creating something beautiful...."

"I had a great time working with the people at the Garden of Tomorrow. They put us to work and I felt like my time was well spent. I'll be going back for sure."

    Hello All,

I very much look forward to leading this memorable event for you again this Saturday. If you have any questions or concerns prior to the event, I recommend you either write them in this comments section, or call/text me directly at 602.615.7477.

Again, if you have not yet completed a Release Form at www.thephoenixphilanthropists.org, please do so prior to the event. If you are able to print a copy and bring it, that would be ideal in the rare case of an emergency. I will provide extra copies at the event.

I will also be bringing extra pairs of gardening gloves, and shovels—but if you have your own tools and/or gloves, I encourage you to bring them. I have nine pairs of adult-sized gloves, and two pairs of child-sized gloves, as well as nine shovels. As you can imagine, dirt gets dirty, so I do recommend you bring moist wipes to the event as well. Thank you for contributing! X

    Alana
