St. Mary's Food Bank

This is going to be a regular 4th Tuesday of the month for year 2013!

PLEASE CARPOOL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! Parking is limited on some days due to activity at our campus locations.

Due to Health codes and safety reasons, a required dress policy is in effect! Volunteers MUST wear Closed Toe Shoes, Shirts need to be short or long sleeved (No tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc.) and Shorts are okay. Dress in layers during the winter as it will be cooler in the warehouse and dress cooler in the summer. Some people like to wear gloves and some find them a little cumbersome to work with. Feel free to bring a pair along.

Please leave valuables, purses or backpacks in your vehicle for your safety and security!  St. Mary’s Food Bank is not responsible for lost and/or stolen items brought into our facilities!

Stay alert at all times— Please DO NOT operate Cell Phones or IPods on the volunteer floor!

We will be working the assembly line packing boxes or bagging potatoes, apples, oranges or whatever they need us to do. The minimum age limit is 12 years old. I encourage those with teenagers to bring them as guests. It is a great event to expose your kids to volunteering and seeing how important it is to help those that are in need.

You are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations with you to this event. For more info on St. Mary's click HERE

If you are attending and have not filled out a release form for St. Mary's Food Bank before, please go HERE to print out the form to bring with you. They also have release forms without the application portion available when you arrive.

Thanks for all you do!

I agree with all the comments below. I think Phoenix Philanthropists is truly awesome and do not blame the group in any way. It takes me a solid 45-minute drive from work over there and then over an hour to get back home afterward. If I knew that St. Mary's canceled the event, I would have given my volunteering time yesterday to a different organization so that I could at least help someone in need. P.S.: It seems like I was the only person who arrived before St. Mary's closed for the evening and had a live human tell me the event was canceled. The person who I spoke to over there seemed really aloof to the matter and when he called his manager, it was a justifying excuse that it was posted on the website, and so, all the groups were presumed to be "informed" (as was obviously not the case). A quick email or call to the contact on file would have been nice, as I am sure someone would have then sent out an email blast to all the volunteers.

Thanks for taking time to write, however you have nothing to apologize for. I understand how very nice you are, and your intentions a sincere, but you didn't do it. I'm not looking for an apology from St. Mary's either. They are well meaning people who like us, are trying to make a difference, however they need to understand that even though we give away our time and labor, it's not something to be wasted. We had 14 people committed to giving 2 hours each (plus driving time); we could have processed a lot of food in that time.

Yes...it takes me more than an hour to get there in rush hour traffic...that was more of the frustration for me. Not upset at all with PP...not your fault! But a lesson learned for perhaps someone looking at St Mary's website a few hours before the event and posting here to confirm. I won't just drive all the way there again without making sure the event is on!

On behalf of the Phoenix Philanthropists, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this misunderstanding caused each of you. The service committee will communicate with this important charity partner to find out how this occurred, and to take steps to ensure this doesn't happen again. We appreciate you, and want every experience you have with Phoenix Philanthropists to not just be positive, but excellent. Please accept our apology, and our gratitude for for your patience and understanding.

they cancelled. I don't know if they let one of us know or not, but I arrived, and it was closed up. Perhaps, they could have a least left a sign. I noticed two other people drive away while I was in the parking lot.

Would have been nice to know earlier. I like to volunteer, but not real wild about driving and being stood up.

They said it's because they don't have anyone to run the event after the long weekend. And that they got in so many donations that the little staff they do have is working in sorting all the food.

Thank you for letting us know. Too bad they didn't let us know before so many people showed up.

I know! I was shocked when I got there and they told me! Apparently their way of informing their groups was by posting it on their website!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
