Thank you to everyone who was there or who made efforts to be at the Optimists' first annual Kidfest on Saturday. This was intended to be a very large event in which many volunteers were expected to be needed, so I am very sorry that several of you were either turned away, or had little to do while there. Additionally, I am sorry for the difficulty some of you had trying to find the event. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. I am certain the Optimists will want to utilize it in planning other large events, including next year's Kidfest. So, though this was far from the wonderful volunteer experience we would have wanted you to be able to enjoy, each of your experiences on Saturday is of great value in the successful planning of their future events. Thanks, again, to each and every one of you for your contributions, efforts, patience, feedback, and all you do to make a difference! You are greatly appreciated!

I arrived at 12:45 for cleanup. Most was broken down, so I helped for 15-20 min and there was nothing left to do.

Hi, Michael! Thank you for going out there, and for the difference you made while there. I am sorry there was not much left for you to do. I know they anticipated break-down would start until 1:00, due to the large turnout for which they were hoping. Thank you for providing feedback, and thank you, Michael, for all you do.

They weren't well organized for volunteers at this 1st time event

So disappointing. I arrived at 9am. Couldn't find Kai. The Optimists were very kind, but there just wasn't any work to do. And I couldn't stay to wait for tasks as I HAD to leave by 11:00

I'm so sorry Chandu you were driving all around. It is kind of hard to find. We appreciate you trying to come out and help.

Liz I saw you checked in but I was unable to find you. I appreciate you coming to help. Lori is correct about finding the right balance of volunteer help. This was a new Optimist event and we are learning. We learned we needed help mostly for set up and break down. Thank you so so much for your time and effort.

I most definitely walked around. I'm glad you mentioned this is a new event. I think the Optimists learned to, in the future, avoid scheduling events that compete with football, soccer and other sports

Thanks so much for trying, and for your feedback, Liz! I am certain the Optimists will want to consider all our feedback for their next large event.

They didn't need help. Actually they could have used help promoting it as there were very few people there. Too bad.

    • Lori

So sorry, Katie! Thanks for going out there and for the feedback. I understand the Optimists advertised on radio stations and distributed fliers in schools, but there may be other oppotunities for them to consider for future events. They had so much great stuff out there for kids, and tons of truly awesome prizes, so they certainly expected a big turnout.

I still would love to come and help love anything with children:) What shift you need help with?

    September 21, 2013

    • Lori

Hi, Mike! I was just there for set-up and think they will need a lot of help with break-down, especially since the all-day Optimists will likely be tired, BUT you can go down there for any shift you'd like. Thank you so much!
