St. Mary's Food Distribution at the Knight Center

Hi Everyone!

We have the opportunity to volunteer on a regular basis at St. Mary's Knight Center, which is their food distribution center.

We will be helping pass out food carts to people. We will be working right out of the St. Mary's Food Bank Knight Distribution Center located at 3131 W. Thomas. If the volunteer portion of the lot is full please park in the other volunteer parking area east St. Mary's located at 2831 N. 31st Ave and walk over to the Knight center a couple buildings west of the Thomas and 31st Avenue intersection.

Please plan on working the entire shift. The work is client driven so some days can be very busy and some will have periods where there are lulls. This can be a time to visit with other volunteers!  It is usually busy at the end of the shift and you may need to help for a few minutes past 4:00 to assist the last few clients. Dress in layers if weather is cool outside as you will be helping the clientele get their food boxes to their car/bicycle/pull cart etc.

Time: 12-4 pm

Minimum age is 12 (with adult supervision) 16 & 17 can work alone with a signed waiver (parent or legal guardian

Please wear closed-toe shoes and no sleeveless shirts.

Please note Phoenix Philanthropists does have an attendance policy. We understand that plans change and emergencies come up. If you RSVP YES, but can no longer attend, PLEASE change your RSVP ASAP. Our charity partners rely on us to attend when we say we will and our attendance policy is intended to ensure we can meet our charity partners' expectations. Please give a minimum of 2 hours' notice for this event before canceling. No Call/No Shows will be recorded, and after 3 No Call No Shows/month or 6 No Call No Shows/year, you will be removed from the Phoenix Philanthropists MeetUp. Please understand this policy is not intended to penalize our philanthropists, but to ensure we maintain good relationships with our charity partners and can give the most back to our community.

    I have several questions:
-- Are there really only two more people needed? I have up to 5 friends who are checking their schedules to make sure they can commit to this day and time. If they all decide they'd like to attend, will we turn away three of them or will their wish to serve be accommodated?
-- Are there jobs on this day that don't involve lifting? I recall being involved in the Thanksgiving distribution and saw that not every job was super-physical. It's an important consideration for one of my friends.
-- An issue with another friend is whether service dogs are allowed. Her dog helps predict if she is going to have an epileptic seizure (which do not occur often but are big when they do).

Even if these folks don't end up volunteering on this particular date, these answers will be helpful because they want to be involved in the future.

    Thank you.

Hi, Mary! Sorry for the late response! Just received information from St. Mary's that they can absolutely use more folks tomorrow and can definitely accommodate folks who can't lift, and someone with a service dog, in much-needed data entry roles that support distribution. I hope it is not too late, and your guests can still attend. I will open spots for anyone you would like to add. Thank you! Hope you all have a great time!

Thanks so much, Lori. Most everyone that thought they weren't needed made other plans for the day, but I had one volunteer who was heartbroken about not being able to go, so I was delighted to let her know she was welcome. I wasn't able to add her via the site. but I'm assuming that's not a problem. Thanks for all you do and have a wonderful weekend! M

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
