UMOM Watkins Overflow Shelter - Kid Connection

Hi Everyone!

This is our regular Friday evening at the UMOM Watkins Overflow Shelter.

We will spend quality time with the children at the Watkins overflow homeless shelter. Activities include arts & crafts, reading, writing, games, and fun, literacy-based activities. Feel free to bring an arts and crafts project that can work for up to 30 kids. We can always use more Play Doh, preferably the larger size cans of Play Doh. Foam letter stickers and sticker books are always good to contribute. At this time we have plenty of games, toys, crayons and other items other than what was just mentioned. Plan on being there from 6 pm to 8 pm. We will be interacting with kids from 6 months to early teens. This gives the parents a break from their kids and it shows the kids that others care about them.

Please keep in mind that UMOM is a faith-based organization. Minimum age for this will be 12 with parent or guardian accompanying you. You need to be comfortable that your kids will be comfortable interacting with peers or younger kids that are homeless.

Please follow the map details from the link under Location at the top of the event info.

Also and most importantly, please check back on the event posting on the date of the event to see the number of volunteers signed up.  If at 4pm, there are 8 or more volunteers signed up, then the event is a "go" for that day.  If there are less than 8 volunteers signed up, then the event is understood to be cancelled.

Last and most importantly - please don't take photos of either parents or kids.  We have been asked to refrain from taking photos of the families to maintain their privacy.  Photos of our volunteers are allowed, but not of the kids.

Thanks for all you do!

Thank you volunteers for all you do and continuing to make this program a success. I find it hard to believe that in the wealthiest country in the world our children have to live in a converted warehouse in cubicles. Way to go America! Hopefully we can make a difference in their lives.

Just a reminder! The shelter is always in need of donations so if you have any clothes(children's or adult sizes),
blankets, sheets, towels, toys,(no stuffed animals for they can spread lice), balls etc., please feel free to bring them to donate. There are also a 120 women there in a different section.
