St. Mary's Food Distribution at the Knight Center

Hi Everyone!

We have the opportunity to start volunteering on a regular basis at St. Mary's Knight Center, which is their food distribution center. We will start out seeing how many volunteers we can get on Friday afternoons and if we get a good response, we will schedule it every Friday.

We will be helping pass out food boxes and food value club carts to people. We will be working right out of the St. Mary's Food Bank Knight Distribution Center located at 3131 W. Thomas. Please park in the normal volunteer parking area east St. Mary's located at 2831 N. 31st Ave and walk over to the Knight center a couple buildings west of the Thomas and 31st Avenue intersection.

Dress in layers in case the weather is cool outside as you will be helping the clientele get their food boxes to the car.

Time: 12-4 pm

Minimum age is 12.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and no sleeveless shirts.

If you are attending and have not filled out a release form for St. Mary's Food Bank before, please go HERE to print out the form to bring with you. They also have release forms without the application portion available when you arrive.

Thanks for all you do!

I have gone to this meet up twice now and it has been really slow each time. There appear to be more volunteers (most of them fulfilling community service requirements and not diggin' it) than people who need assistance. We stand in line waiting to wheel a cart of food out to someone's car, help them load it, then bring the cart back in so it doesn't disappear. Once inside, we refill the carts in the warehouse and then the waiting game begins again. I lasted an hour and a half today! Maybe as it gets closer to the holidays, things will be busier.
