Skeptics -

By popular demand, our May selection is by the always smart and hilarious pop-sci author Mary Roach. Any of her books would be perfect, so we threw a dart at our screen and hit Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. It's available in paperback, digital and audio.

Here is how the book is described on Mary's website:

"The study of sexual physiology—what happens, and why, and how to make it happen better—has been going on for centuries, behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, Alfred Kinsey's attic, and, more recently, MRI centers, pig farms, and sex-toy R&D labs.  I spent two years wheedling  and conniving my way behind those doors to bring you the answers to the questions Dr. Ruth never asked.  Is your penis three inches longer than you think? Is vaginal orgasm a myth?  Can a dead man get an erection? Why doesn't Viagra help women—or, for that matter, pandas?"

This one is going to be fun! The meetup always fills up, so sign up early if you plan on joining us. If your plans change, please change your RSVP ASAP, OK?

I unfortunately had to book a last minute flight to Wyoming for a family thing. I did find this book intriguing and the research scientist in me liked the chapters describing sexual research in detail.

I'm still a maybe. It's going to depend on how quickly I get my work done and if I have my act together as I leave early morning the next day for Cali.

I am a huge fail. But I do have a friend visiting until Saturday. Can I still keep my Skeptics badge? Please?

A surprise bday party for a friend means I'll be missing this month's (sure to be) lively discussion.

TMI! I'm skeptical about finishing this book. I've never really been a fan of freak shows. Someone tell me if it has a great ending and maybe that will encourage me to soldier on.
