Phoenix Skeptics in the Pub Message Board › Win a visit from JAMES RANDI
The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) is raising money this holiday season. This year, they have given us an extra incentive to donate. The local skeptic group that donates the most money wins a visit from none other than Randi himself! I know this will be a battle, but I think we have a good chance. Just write "Phoenix Skeptics in the Pub" in the organization field when you make your donation.
Let's help the JREF make truly make this a "season of reason!"
Help Us Support the Skeptical Grassroots
At the James Randi Educational Foundation, our mission is to advance science literacy and critical thinking by promoting a skeptical message to the public. Over the years, we have been able to further this goal in a number of ways. We have awarded grants to educators so they can develop new ways to instill an appreciation and understanding of reality in their students. Through our Million Dollar Challenge, we have directly challenged proponents of supernatural and paranormal claims to prove themselves through scientific testing. We have brought a skeptical message to hundreds of thousands of people through our website, our newsletter, and our expanding digital book publishing and educational media production. And every year, we host The Amazing Meeting, the largest and most successful conference devoted exclusively to science and skepticism.
None of this would be possible without the support of people like you: members and leaders of grassroots skeptical groups all over the world. It is organizations like yours that often become the gateway for those interested in furthering a love of science and reason to spread that love into the wider community, whether it be by attending a monthly Skeptics in the Pub meeting, participating in a local SkeptiCamp, or watching a guest lecturer at their nearest university. The JREF is committed to providing grassroots skeptics with the resources they need to accomplish their goals, because all of us are working toward the same mission.
Just in the past several months, we have provided promotional and financial support for SkeptiCamp conferences in New Hampshire and Washington, D.C. We have co-sponsored science outreach events on college campuses across the United States. In September, James Randi himself embarked on a whirlwind tour of Canada, performing to sold-out audiences and supporting local skeptical organizations along the way. We have provided educational workshops on such perennial skeptical topics as dowsing and E.S.P. to grassroots groups just like yours.
During this Season of Reason, we ask that you and your members help ensure that we can continue providing all of these resources. We also need your support to realize our goal of continuing to expand our grassroots offerings. In the coming weeks, we will be rolling out even more free tools you can use to expand your message and win the battles for science and reason that so desperately need to be fought. We have plans to make event promotion easier through our expansive network of supporters the world over. We will also be providing talented, entertaining, and educational speakers who can travel to your local area. Our website, Randi.org, will offer more and more resources for skeptical activism projects, so we can all work toward making this a better, more rational world.
We are very excited to announce that there is a special premium exclusively for grassroots skeptical organizations this year: a free in-person visit from James Randi himself! Throughout our Season of Reason, the donation form on Randi.org will include a field for you to list your skeptical organization. The group with the largest donation total at the end of the year will receive a visit from James Randi in 2012 on us.
Those who support us during the Season of Reason can also receive an exclusive JREF ornament. If you would like a sample ornament to share with your fellow local skeptics, just email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will send one to you right away.
Thank you so much for promoting science and reason in your community and beyond. We at the James Randi Educational Foundation will continue to help you in that effort for years to come.
