Coffee and Critique

Let's get together to share photos with one another and learn new ideas. We'll look at photos as a group and discuss what the group sees.

While the process is called critique, the goal is to build ideas, confidence and sharpen your photographer's eye.

I'll bring a laptop and a 22" monitor so that we can look at the group's photos together.

Ground Rules

1. Before you come, mail me 2 photos ([masked]) that you'd like to have critiqued. If I don't receive your photos a minimum of 48 hours before the event, I will cancel your reservation to allow another person on the waiting list to participate.

2. Everyone participates. This is a collaborative experience and a discussion, not a lecture.

3. Everyone's welcome, all skill levels. Even if you're new to photography, it's a great way to learn new techniques.

4. Our group is about building people up, not tearing things down. Please bring a positive attitude and an open mind.

5. I'd like to focus on composition, exposure and color, and not equipment. We're working on how to make the best use of the gear that you have, not the gear that you don't own.

6. Please bring some money to buy drinks and/or food at Elva's Coffee. They've been very generous to provide us lots of space to meet.

After the event, I will shrink the photos to screen resolution and post to the meetup site. Please let me know before hand if you do not want me to post them.

Thanks and look forward to seeing you next week!

For anyone in the San Jose area, I run a great art discussion/critique group, if anyone's interested, we have a meeting coming up at the end of april, thanks. http://www.meetup.com/Silicon-V...

I enjoyed the company and the critique and the different view points offered. We do need a better viewing platform and environment to offer more than general comments about composition. Bigger monitor or projection and/or a darker environment, and where viewing at an angle isn't a problem. However, I did have a good time and learned from people's observations.

Sorry I cut out. When a coffee shop hosts a meetup the deal is that the meetup participants patronize the establishment and in return they're actually given some space. When I saw you all crammed up against the side of that narrow hallway I got really upset, especially after dealing with the parking situation.

Yeah, the first look at the venue was a little off-putting. But when I arrived and we were trying to figure how to fit another person in, the staff moved the table out to the center of the floor space up front and there was adequate space for seating and viewing.

Good folks, some interesting work to critique. I wish there were a couple more people and photos to look at. It was good fun and nice to meet fellow photographers.

Thanks to everyone who has sent their photos so far. If you recently moved up from the waiting list, please mail me 2 photos ([masked]) as soon as you can. Please resize for screen resolution. I have already received the photos from Grotius, David K. Nidhi, Mike, Cathy K, Godfrey, Gen, and Matthew.

Look forward to seeing all of you on Saturday.

I sent my photos last night. Thanks for creating this meetup! I think this is a great idea!

Sent you my two photos just now. I made them 1200 pixels on the long edge for display purposes. I would prefer that you not resize and post these afterwards. I have web-display sized versions prepared and can provide them to you afterwards. Thanks!

Could not e-mail photos because of file size limit!

Hi David, don't worry about sending full size photos, just send screen resolution JPG. We're only going to look at them on the screen and don't need print resolution. Email me if you still have trouble with file sizes.
