I've had lots of folks ask me, "Are we going to do another summer Obon festival photowalk?" Sure, let's go again this year.
This time, we'll go on Saturday. It's going to be twice as crowded, but it will have an entirely different atmosphere with the sunset.
The basic game plan, we'll get together for some group introductions and check-in, shoot for a bit and stop for a refresher. Then we'll head out to take position for the obon dance at 7:30 PM.
I won't be doing any lessons on technique, this is purely a social event for meeting other people. But I'll be happy to show you how I approach event photography and we'll shoot together if you'd like.
Please note - only RSVP if you plan to join us as a group and shoot together. If you want to shoot on your own and post pictures of the event, that's fine as well, we look forward to seeing your results. But let's keep the RSVPs open for those who want to shoot together and socialize.
Parking near the festival area is very limited. I usually park on the other side of the train tracks (off of 8th or 9th street), or take the light rail.
Challenge yourself to bring as little equipment as you can. The general rule of thumb, the more gear you bring, the less you shoot. Can you leave the gear at home and shoot the whole day with a single lens? Maybe a single prime lens?
