A visit to the eccentric Boomeria

Boomeria (Boomeria.com, Boomeria.org) is a one of a kind location. I encourage you to visit the website and take a tour so that you know what a treat you have in for you. A number of the photos are from previous excursions there that we have donated photos back to Boomer.

Boomeria is both a kids and adult playground. There are opportunities for catacombs, organs, castles, merry-go-rounds, slides, stocks, all of which make for great photo opportunities, or backdrops for portrait work.

We will spend the afternoon shooting at Bommeria, followed by a no host dinner, and then a review and post processing workshop. The evening part will require a laptop to review your photos. Beneficial, though not required, is some post processing software that would allow for simple operations such as cropping.

Logistics

Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Boomeria is a 1 hour drive from Los Gatos into the Santa Cruz mountains. Address is 60 Verde Dr., Bonnie Doon. (not sure the map is quite correct) We will meet at 3pm and shoot for several hours with the review & Post processing session held in Sunnyvale at 7PM.

I will be bringing reflectors so that we can do some simple portrait work with interesting backgrounds.  There will be both indoor and outside shooting, so bring a flash if you have one.

Playground equipment was wonderful. What memories they bring back! What a nice person to allow strangers to come mess around at his place. Please thank him for me.

Kid & photographer's playground, one of the most unique places and with a most gracious host.

Note for boomers, most everything is indoors, bring flash, extra batts, high speed lens if you have them.

I would like to go, but don't know if I could walk it.

Terr, it is a private residence, and there isn't that much walking if I recall, (I hadn't been Down in the catacombs) but the rest is ground level, touring certain rooms/pipe organ mini cathedral. Totally optional what you want to go shoot, it's worth a trip!

    • Patrick

Sure, but we would miss your contributions to the post processing piece.

I <3 the Santa Cruz mountains. Have wanted to go to (and take pictures at) Boomeria since I read about it on atlas obscura! Super excited for this one.

You are welcome to RSVP for a guest as well. I just want to be sensitive to the total number of folks that we have.

    July 17

  • Patrick

Yes, it is still a private residence (10 acres), however I have a relationship with him, and in the past when I have done this he has benefited with photos that he adds to the website. Because of this, I don't want hoards of folks, but a small enough number that we do not over run the place

Thanks for the info, Patrick. Would we be able to bring guest with our RSVP, or is the event only limited to meetup group members?

      July 17

  • Vince

Hi, am curious if Boomeria is normally open to the public? I read online that it is still a private home and only open at certain time of the year? Is that true?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
