Hi Everyone,

FYI-notes so that you know we haven't dropped from the face of the earth. ;)

For (early? 4th or so?) February, We're trying to contact Hakone Gardens for a Morning shoot. (before opening. I think around 8 or 9 am)

March- Overfelt Gardens perhaps- Early March- They have a great Chinese cultural center and I know that the trees are in bloom then. They also have some interesting pagodas, statues, ponds, wildlife, fragrance gardens, bulb beds, tea rose garden, redwood grove. Small sampling here. http://www.pbase.com/...

Open to any & all suggestions/concerns or questions.

I talked with Hakone folks today. They wanted $50 to $60 PER person for the photo shoot depending on when we do it.

I was tempted to say no out of hand, but I said that I would put it out to the group.

Please feel free to respond.

It's ok just as long as we don't all show up at once looking like a bunch of pros. If you leak in one by one they're less likely to notice. They will ask if you are a professional, and will make it very clear that you can't use images professionally without a $50 permit. But I have had no trouble getting in, with a tripod and photo bag, after promising not to use my images commercially.

Waterfall at Hakone gardens. Pretty perhaps, but commercially useless, because it lacks a property release.

I've heard back from several people and no one seems in favor of paying th requested entrance fee (surprise surprise).

Last year the Pinacles were beautiful at the end of Feb. http://www.pbase.com/...
It is a 3/4 day trip to do it, a couple of hours driving each way plus time there. Another 3/4 day trip is Pt. Lobos home of classic landscape photography.

Any interest in either of these?

Hakone-- I've heard from several people and not surprising no one was interested in paying the use fees. Several people have mentioned just showing up during regular hours which I think is the way to go.

I am thinking of going to the Pinnacles late in the month or early March. Last year it was spectacular at this time of year.

It is a 3/4 day to all day trip.

Also contemplating a trip to Pt Lobos. Pt Lobos for any that have not been there is just South of Carmel and is spiritual home to landscape photography in the US (Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and others).
