I downloaded the demo version. and WOW is all that I can say about the results. what a change it makes! The software is $149 to buy for most of us. I would encourage folks to try this software if they want sharper images with less distortion.

The software reverse engineers the optical distortion in each camera/lens combination and then removes that distortion from the image.

Points to our esteemed organizer --> Troublemaker

yep, Dawn tried it too-If you shoot RAW- you definately want to give this a try- Did a test shot with 3 colored bottles- and they came out Jewelike with the auto settings. I was doing some test shots- Photoshop, Rawshooter & DxO converter for Exif info and uploading to pbase. If you want a quick comparision.. this was mostly auto settings for all programs (photoshop was a straight brightness/contrast tho) http://www.pbase.com/...

note: on the demo- you can only pick one 'lens' for the filter- I tried it with the Rebel Kit lens.

and the website.. for those interested.. http://www.dxo.com/en...

A colleague recently mentioned that there is a $5 shareware application available which also performs distortion correction, see http://epaperpress.co.... It probably can't cope with RAW formats and maybe doesn't offer some of the other effects, but the distortion correction may be good enough and the rest probably is in PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro anyway.

Yes, I like the removing the barrel/pin cushion effects, but even more I like the increase in sharpness and definition I get with DxO.

It has been a while since I played with the PtTools. Last time they didn't have the profiles, so that is a definite advantage. I'll be playing with that
