Learning Series: Portrait Lighting with Wayne Hoecherl

We're pleased to announce our first "Learning Series" event of 2013... at VPW. Advanced portrait lighting with two instructors, two lighting sets, two models, and some time to try a few shots... all at a very affordable rate of $25 for 3 hours of instruction.

Portrait Lighting with Wayne Hoecherl

An extremely talented commercial photographer and beloved instructor known for his distinctive style, Wayne Hoecherl is a master with lighting and produces extraordinary portraits. We are very lucky to have this time with Wayne.

And... we're blessed to have Marc Koegel (VPW's director) assisting Wayne at this session!

Wayne will develop two different portrait sets and talk us through his decisions as he sets up lighting for each set. When that's done, we'll break into two groups and half of us will watch as Wayne helps each person setup a shot or two with one set... and then switch and watch as Marc helps each person setup a shot with the other set, and so on. You will be expected to watch and learn as each person is setting up and taking their shot... we will all be learning from each others' experiences.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is an intermediate to advanced lighting workshop that will appeal to photographers adept at managing their DSLR manual settings and good experience achieving desired exposure. A basic understanding of lighting is helpful. Suggested gear is a lens with focal length between[masked]mm, but anything between[masked]mm will work.
JUST TO BE CLEAR: this event will involve 2 hours and 45 minutes of watching and learning, and 15 minutes or LESS of trying shots with your camera throughout the 3 hour workshop session.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Trish

Attendance Note: if you sign up to attend, you will be counted on to show up. All members who do not show up will be recorded as a NO SHOW in the system. Members with bad attendance records (3 strikes) may be refused attendance at future popular events, or risk being removed from this group.

    What a fun time today! Great instruction and so good to see everyone enjoying themselves... and we had a full turnout. Woohoo! I guess all the reminders helped. :)

    Many thanks to Marc, Wayne and VPW for putting on this event at cost and nearly free studio and lighting equipment; thanks to the great models, and many thanks to all members participating for being in such good spirits and for being so helpful toward one other. A really good time.

    I've opened up a couple more spots. This is how it works: until 11:45 tonight, those on the waiting list can grab one of the available spots - first come, first served. After that, RSVPs are locked in.

    If you cannot attend, change your RSVP to "no", or remove yourself from the waiting list. Thanks.

    Sorry I just got some urgent matter tomorrow, so I have to cancel my attendance.

      OK, BT can do it. Really good food, really cheap. I will setup a different Meetup event for the lunch so we can sign up and talk about it there.

    Hi everyone, just checking... does everyone have a DSLR and know your manual mode really well? If not, there will be only two x 6 minutes to take shots -- and that includes any one-on-one instruction time. Just want to be absolutely clear and save any disappointment. Thanks.

    Please update your RSVP if you cannot make it out on Sunday. Those on the waiting list - please also remove your waiting list spot if you cannot attend. Thank you.

      Hi Sharon, you're 10th on the waiting list. I'm not sure that many people will drop out. Hang tight though, you never know what might happen.

    REMINDER: This is an intermediate to advanced lighting workshop that will appeal to photographers with DSLRs, who are adept at MANUAL MODE, with good experience achieving desired EXPOSURE.

    Just confirming... this session will primarily involve watching and learning. There will be VERY LITTLE time to personally practice shots at this session.

      Just watching? Will there be popcorn? Otherwise I'm out!

      March 9, 2013

    • Trish

      Hi Argun, no, no popcorn. Keeners like yourself may be bored. That's why I'm making sure everyone knows the drill in advance. 1 hour of watching setup of the 2 sets, step by step, and then 2 groups of 10 watching and learning... and a few minutes of one-on-one instruction/shooting each. That's it. Valuable for those who are fairly new to portrait set lighting, but if you're already familiar and just want an opportunity to shoot models, then it's not for you.

  • Lilla

    Hi, I would like a change if a spot comes available to take the lighting workshop. Thanks, Lilla

      Hi Lilla, stay on the waiting list - it's likely that a few people will change their minds and you'll get a spot.
