Virtual Photo Challenge - Written Words

This time, our virtual challenge Written Words challenges us to think about the "feeling" a photo gives us by describing it with words that have been written by others.

You are to shoot at least one photo that gives you a feeling that can be described by the works of a writer (whether written words or lyrics) that correspond to one of the five themes provided.

If you want to play, make sure you're signed up before the start time of 7am on Wednesday, April 10th. And, as with previous challenges so far this year, if you RSVP to attend this event, you are making a personal commitment to take at least ONE photo according to your interpretation of the themes provided, and post at least ONE image in the Designated Album for this challenge.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INSTRUCTIONS
You must sign up before the start date to take part in this challenge.
By signing up you commit to take at least ONE photo representing one of your choice of the items provided. You may take as many photos as you like, but you must post at least ONE image to the designated photo album for the challenge, and up to five images in total - one for each of the items.
WRITTEN WORDS
This week's theme, Written Words, requires you to: a) shoot a picture and then choose a feeling it gives you, or b) think of a feeling and then shoot a picture that represents that feeling - that can be described by the works of a writer (whether the title or passage from written works or lyrics).
Here are the types of themes to choose from:
1. Poetry
2. Spoken Word (recording)
3. Short Story or Novel
4. Master Composer (classical music)
5. Pop Song
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

HOW IT WORKS

To participate, you must sign up before the start date of this challenge.

Your own personal challenge starts when you RSVP to join us on the challenge. You commit to taking at least ONE photo, based on your interpretation of your choice of the items in the list.

You must post at least ONE image to the Designated Photo Album for this Challenge, and you MUST use the Caption to describe in detail the theme, the feeling, the corresponding written words and their source, that each image represents. You can post up to 5 images, one for each of the list items.

No other photos are allowed. Your photos must be taken with your camera between the start and end dates of this challenge. If you cannot post your images on the day you took them, you can post later; there is no time limit for posting your images to the Album once the challenge begins.

Use of all of your cameras are welcome, such as SLR, phone, toy, and point & shoots. Computer post-processing techniques (crop, colour correction, etc.) are allowed. To make it more challenging, we encourage use of "in-camera" settings and framing and minimal computer post-processing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All group members are encouraged to enjoy the photos that are posted by the participants of this challenge and add comments of encouragement and appreciation.
REMEMBER: we will NOT meet in person because this is a VIRTUAL challenge. There will be no judging and no prizes. If you sign up for the challenge, you are making a personal agreement with yourself to take photos and then post your best photos as laid out in the instructions.
Note: If you miss the start date and cannot RSVP, then you must wait for the next challenge... :)
Enjoy!!!!
    It was quite a struggle trying to get my head around the concept, but I think I finally got on to it, and produced something I would not have otherwise thought about. So, all in all it was a good exercise for me. Also,I got to see some very innovative combinations and some very good photography.
      I agree having only entered about 5 Challenges. Just the thoughtfulness of the matching of images and song, poems, etc., was impressive. The photographs were really superb.
      I agree, "superb" says it, Wendy... Thanks very much, Russ. I'm in awe of the entire experience and I'm honoured to be in the midst of such a talented and thoughtful group! :)
    Slowly savouring each image and its corresponding written words this morning has been an amazing experience for me personally. I feel I have travelled through a maze of inspiration, awe, drama, excitement and wonder. To me, this challenge is a wonderful example of how images with intention can evoke emotion, new thought and remembrance. Truly wonderful. Many thanks to each of you for participating with such thoughtfulness. :)
    This Virtual Photo Challenge with Written Words has been inspiring and invigorating... thus challenging to go a little further than just taking a picture.
    It certainly pushed me to find the seed...eh...eh...eh...
    The photos accompanied with words became fuller in whole...each had a story and became alive--in my eyes.
    It was fun and definitely helpful to open, explore and expand one's creative thread...
    It was grand! Thank you Trish for organizing this!
    April 17, 2013
    • Trish
      I so agree with you, Red. Thank you for summarizing the experience... that the images coupled with the words became fuller in whole, each had a story and became alive. Moving and inspiring to witness the expansion of creativity in thought and imagery.
    Excellent Photo Challenge! I enjoyed it so much, I told all my photography buddies at work about it, and now they want to try the challenge too. :)
    Such a great set of photos taken. It was really neat to read all the different poems, and quotes. It was very inspiring.
    Thanks for another interesting challenge, Trish. I enjoyed finding images to correspond with words... and words to match some of my images. Also benefited from seeing how others interpreted each category.
    At first I was at a loss for inspiration, but then the words started and the pictures followed.I enjoyed reading quotes I'd never heard before matched to beautiful photography! Thank you!
    It was the best one yet! It was enjoyable even before it began with the interaction and questions. The photographs posted were some of the best I've seen in any challenge. And again, it's great to see others interpretation.
    This is cool Trish. Funny thing, this is the way I've been posting my photos to flickr for several years now. Always with a song lyric, poem or quote. Can't wait for this challenge :)
    • Judy
      I had definite ideas when I went out the other day, but didn't find what I thought I was looking for... and other images just appeared - the words followed. Challenging - and fun!
      1 · April 12, 2013
    • kelly
      I was inspired to take the photos...and the words fell into my lap...from a "how to scrapbook" guide, a very seldom used CD playing in the car and an obscure reading program of some sort on TV....just grab your camera and go Trish...
      1 · April 13, 2013
  • Trish
    Already thinking about images, feelings and written words... how about you? :)
    April 9, 2013
    • kelly
      I don't know if I'm "getting it" or not.....
      April 11, 2013
    • Trish
      Time is definitely the issue with me. I heard some music today and I thought of an image that I'd like to represent it.... but it would require some imaginative shooting and I didn't have time today to shoot anything. Maybe on Saturday... :)
    Someone asked me about the Spoken word (recording) theme. Here are my favourites: anything by Leonard Cohen, "Sunscreen" (by Baz Luhrmann!), the Desiderata (recording by Les Crane: http://www.nme.com/nme-video/youtube/id/2yNJaKF9sXA)... a huge number of poetry slam winners (google it), and I just love Adam Gottlieb's "Poet Breathe Now" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXIjF0ERvYY). There are hundreds more. Youtube is a good place to look if you're unsure.
    • Bob
      Hi Trish, are you saying people can post video's?
      April 2, 2013
    • Trish
      Hi Bob, I'm not suggesting video instead of photos. I was asked to explain and give an example of Spoken Word (recording) theme.
