Glamour Model Portrait Shoot and Retouching - Group Two

Here is an event that is more in line of the fashion and glamour industry. As I'm sure you're aware, 99% of all commercial photos (magazines, advertising) is retouched in photoshop or some other post processing software.

I would like to host a "Glamour Model Portrait Shoot and Retouching!" event where we'll have three models get made up in makeup and head wear in studio and then have us photographers come to:

  • Part 1 - take portrait photos
  • Part 2 - that you are asked to retouch before posting.

What will happen is you will show up with your gear and pose the models however you like (will likely have a solid color -white or black- background behind them) and take portraits of them. Then you will work on the images at home and post both the before and after images on the Meetup event page album/gallery, either both on the same image or as two images (and as many sets of photos as you like).

This is a different type of event where the post production process (Photoshop) will be emphasized and some people may do a little, some might do a lot (if you only want to do the photoshoot and post untouched images, that is ok too).

Because of the size of the venue and number of photographers, we are doing this in two groups, one after another. The models will come and get made up a few hours prior and then the photographers will get into groups of four and photograph the models portrait shots at three stations. You'll get a chance to photograph every model by the end.

You must bring your own lights. I will have some continuous lights there and if we are lucky, there will be ample window light. If you have small strobes/speed lights, this is a good event to bring them.

Please upload your favorite photos to the Meetup group after the event.

PS: there is ample street parking and the studio is accessible by transit.

Ok, I kept the requests for photoshop/retouching in mind and now that's getting wet outside, I'm going to running a few photoshop/retouching sessions. Please contact me directly for more information on this.

Thank you everyone, actually the computer and the actions are fast, My need is really to learn how to touch up portraits from people that have experience. I have elements and creative suite, it's my skills. I want to be better. I often vollunteer for para athletes, palative, hospice. and I can correct a few things but I would like to be better. I am happy to take a course or pay to learn. I learn very well by watching someone do it. That is really what I need, to spend a bit of time with someone that knows how to do this.

Hi Carollyne. I found both '' and '' to be good places to get lessons on retouching photos. Both are equally good and about $25 per month. 'Kelby' is only on Photography, and Lynda has many other computer program lessons.

What software are you using on your portraits, I use Elements but it is painstakingly slow? Sp Saturday 4:00 PM until 4:30PM? Are you going to show your tecniques on a computer?

    June 13, 2013

    • Ronald L.

Hi Carollyne, I happen to use photoshop. The speed of the software depends on your a) computer and b) patience as I also have photoshop elements and it runs quite fast for me. And no, I am not showing any techniques on the computer, that's up to the photog to figure out ;-) I WILL post a photoshop art event for later in the summer perhaps, that isn't related to this one however.

You might try putting your picture files on a separate hard drive. Sometimes picture storage is so large it can slow down your computr Get a external hard drive that is a Terabyte
