Parade of Lost Souls Walk 2013

Celebrate the 2013 Parade of Lost Souls: Transition, Passing, Ceremony, and a return to the Source...

Spend the evening with photographer friends! It's definitely going to be a fun night out!

Our group will meet at the Courtyard, on the west side of Commercial Drive and Napier St., at 6:30pm -- and wait for 30 minutes for everyone to gather. 

At 7pm, we will move slowly, somewhat in a group, toward the Britannia School Football Field where the festivities are headquartered. 

At the Football Field, we will enter the gate, offer our $5 donation, and obtain information about the route of the Walk. We will slowly follow the crowd on the route and stop to photograph what we want.

 IMPORTANT: We will NOT try to stay together for the entire walk, so, if you are alone and wish to have company during the walk, I strongly suggest that you arrive on time and make acquaintance with a few people and agree to stick together during the walk.

WHAT TO EXPECT: There will be lots to shoot during the evening... interesting art structures, lots of people dressed in costumes (both volunteers for the event and the public), music, and fire performances. The street lights cast a beautiful warm hue, and there will be lights along the way -- but plan for low light shots. 

SAFETY: It will be very busy with many people, if you stick with the crowd (which includes families and children), then you will be VERY SAFE. Avoid leaving the crowd and heading down alleyways where there are no art structures or no other people.

UNOFFICIAL MEETING SPOT AT 9:30PM: We will undoubtedly split up during the walk. So, if you want to continue on with others at a pub or restaurant then the suggested meeting spot will be the BENCH on Commercial Drive at the SW corner of Commercial and Napier Street. Those who want to carry on can meet at this spot at 9:30pm, and decide with others what you want to do.

    I am very happy I signed up for this event because I have never seen this event before. I think next I would like to dress up. Great costumes and it looked like a lot of fun. I didn't get very many good shots. I was lucky to get just one. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else posts. Did anyone see the show in the tent? What was it all about? I stood in line twice but never made it to the front.

      Didn't get to see the tent in question, although I did see another tent but not sure what was going on inside, seemed like people sitting around... :)

    Thanks for coming out last night! It was a bit disjoined in terms of where to go and what to do, compared with previous years -- but as usual, the costumes were fantastic, and the fire performances were exhilarating!

    If you're free this coming Friday, we'll be going to the cemetery for a more somber event with a lot of photo opportunities. Hope to see you there.

    Just in case you're all wondering... YES! This is still happening... Apparently, the location will be announced in the wee hours tonight.

    So, look for an email from me tomorrow before noon, with an update and meeting location.

      Some folks have a simple lighting and camera/tripod set-up, then they invite visitors to have their pix taken. Others have a mobile arrangement..speedlites on a frame mounted on a backpack. the photog wanders around shooting whatever looks interesting. whichever system is used, it usually needs 2-3 people to operate properly.

    I've changed the date to Saturday, Oct 26... we were working with information from a rumour and it can't be right. This seems more reasonable... but we still don't know for sure.
