Are you guys interested in having more "unhosted" events posted for the group -- like this one? Seemed it was a success even though not much opportunity to see each other while there... let me know, as there are a lot more events like this that we can post for the group even though a host wouldn't be present and no "real" start and end, meeting spot... other than what participants drum up on comments. Do let me know. Thanks.

Trish, VanDusen turns on it's Christmas lights on Dec. 11th and they are on until Christmas. It would make a good 'event' hosted or otherwise. But it is weather dependent and it's a night event as it does not open for the lights until 4:30pm.

Also the Christmas Market starts soon and it is fun, hosted or not.

Just thought I'd throw this out there for everyone's benefit: The camera club sort-of affiliated with the above camera swap meet is the Western Canada Photographic Historic society www.wcpha.com

If you got any kind of film or digital camera stuff to sell throughout the year, bring it to their monthly meetings at the Alpen Club on the first Wednesday of each month around 7 PM.

If there's no buyers at least you can get it appraised but the people that know what the market value is.

    Good luck and have fun.

I think all photography general interest notifications would be appreciated. In addition to Siggi and Tonchi's twice annual camera swap meets in Vancouver, I can think of the Victoria camera show in late may and the annual Puyallup WA show in April. Also there are numerous photography gallery openings and exhibitions which might be of interest to this meetup's membership. For example the current photo exhibition at the Equinox Gallery in Vancouver feature Fred Herzog's fantastic historical street photos.

Thanks Anthony. Everyone... if you know about something fun going on around town (or like Anthony suggests, out of town), feel free to post notices to the General Discussion message boards. That way, anyone who has "notifications for changes to message boards" turned on will see it in an email summary the next day.

Trish: Receiving notices like this are a great help. We are all adults and should be able to attend non-hosted events by ourselves. In case anyone is interested the http://fraservalleybaldeaglefestival.ca is on this weekend @ Harrison Mills.

Garry, I attended that Bald Eagle festival a couple years ago, it was fun.

Also, FYI: On Monday Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Creativelive.com has Lou Freeman on 'Portraits' and 'Glamor Lighting'. Lou Freeman was the first woman to shoot for 'Playboy' and spent 12 years with them.

Depending on what you're looking for, these types of swap meets are hit or miss. If you're looking for 'old stuff', there's plenty to be found. If you're looking for 'newer stuff', those are bit hard to find. If you looking for caps, plenty of bargains to be had. Some lighting accessories were also a rarity (e.g., softboxes) but others were easy to find (e.g., superclamps). Overall, I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be attending Cameron again in April.

Cameron is a little bigger. It's near the Walmart at Lougheed <Mall. This time I just got a Minolta Flashmeter IV for $80. Always wanted one. Last time I got a[masked] lens for Sony for $45. Better bargains ARE to be had at the last minute, but of course lots of good stuff is gone by then. You NEED to know what you are looking for. I revealed to a young guy with a Sony A900 that you can get a Minolta MD adapter for it. He didn't know all that old Minolta glass still works on Sony's. The Leica/Minolta CLs were plentiful and tempting but still too pricey.....

My 1st time & glad I went. But I got there too late at 2:30pm, thinking I would have 1.5 hours to shop. By 3pm, 90% of the sellers were all packed up. Still I got some last minute bargains, a Canon 135mm F2.5 lens, a camera battery & a lens mount adapter, all for $60! The biggest camera swap meet everyone told me is in April 2014 at Cameron (spelling?) Community Centre in Burnaby. At least 2 to 3 times the size of this one. All the sellers I spoke with were helpful & quite knowledgeable. Just getting to handle some of the exotic cameras was fun, e.g the Fuji GX 6x17cm super wide angle film camera, $4500.

It's for collectors of old stuff. I didn't find anything I needed.

Reading through the comments, one thing is clear. The next time there is a show, we need to set up a table to sell stuff as I too have a lot of cool things to sell.

    1 · November 2, 2013

    • Peter H

Yeah! The next one is in the Spring.

      November 2, 2013

    • Randy

Yeah its a really good idea for us non-dealers to share tables.

      November 2, 2013

  • Tom M.

I have a D300s for sale and a couple of good DX lenses, along with my old SLR and a bag of Minolta lenses I wouldn't mind parting with. I don't mind manning the table for a while...

    October 28, 2013

    • Rob

Mmm...Minolta, yes, what have you got?

      November 2, 2013

    • Tom M.

      Hmmm. Let's see... Minolta XGM body, 35-70mm f3.6, 28mm f2.8, 135mm f3.5, Tamron[masked] f3.8-4, Tokina 2x teleconverter, Vivitar extension tubes.

  • Delores S.

Looking for a Nikon if anyone has one for sale. Not sure if I will be able to make swap meet yet. Message me if you have one for sale

    November 2, 2013

  • Randy

Sorry for the bad news, but tables are sold out.

    October 31, 2013

  • Randy

If anyone here is interested in sharing a table with me, please message me at [masked]. If I get two or three people to confirm, then I'll go ahead and book one. Also, ask around, you probably know some friends that have gear to sell!

    October 29, 2013

    • ihor

Sounds like a good deal - this cost is on top of the admission fee - early or late entry prices? How does one 'man' the table if it has to be ready for 8:30? Does that perosn have to pay the extra entry fee?

      October 30, 2013

    • Gerry R.

      I will pitch in $12.50

      October 30, 2013

  • Gail S.

Have a[masked]m Sigma lens for a Canon mount for sale.

    October 28, 2013

    • Randy

Cool. Would you mind chipping in $10 - $12 to share a table?

      October 28, 2013

  • Carol

I am interested - only have a few things as well. How much is a table? And we would need to take turns manning it all day long. About 7 and a half hours - so 4 people 2 hours each would do it.

    October 27, 2013

    • Carol

If we can get 5 people and it is 50 dollars.... Or we sell stuff for other people and take 50%. They price it ... Could get messy ... Have to keep track of who,s stuff it is. Actually , will be tricky enough if there is five of us. So might not be such a good idea to do more. What do you think?

      October 28, 2013

    • Randy

50% may be too much. I don't have the time to organize this with people I don't know, and would rather just pay the $50! I'll ask some of my friends if they're interested..

      October 28, 2013

  • Randy

What about this? If we all pitch in together to get a table, we can sell some of our gear that we don't need.

I've got a few things that I'd like to find a new home for but coudn't justify getting a table on my own. Anyone else interested?

    October 27, 2013

  • Barry B.

These are great. At the Spring one at Cameron I got a very sharp Minolta[masked] (which works fine on my Sony's) for $45. You just have to know what works. Bring a body to try it with and some batteries. And don't buy the first example you see - the same camera might be elsewhere there cheaper and better. Bargains get better in the afternoon, but of course the good stuff is long gone by then. One of these swaps I will finally buy a Rollei TLR like I had and sold decades ago :^(.
