Photo walk near Pitt Lake. There is a parking lot and boat launch near the end of Rannie Road, in Pitt Meadows were we can meet.
The walk is almost here and I wanted to update everyone on what to expect.
If you are driving from Vancouver on Hwy 1, take the exit for the Mary Hill By Pass - 7B and follow the signs for Maple Ridge. Once over the Pitt River bridge, you will take the first exit on your left (Harris Road) It is about 17 km from the Pitt River Bridge. Follow the signs for Pitt Lake or Swan-e-Set Golf Course. Once you pass Swan-e-Set golf course, you are almost there. Keep on driving another 2 km to the parking lot. You can park on the road if the parking lot is full. Parking is free.
The weather forecast shows showers for Saturday, but we all know that can change. You may want to bring an umbrella, boots, coat, sunglasses etc... The location has port-a-potties but nothing else and there is often some cell phone interruption. Bring your camera, tripod, bottled water and comfortable walking shoes/boots.
There are at least 3 different walking routes to take from this starting point. The terrain in flat if you walk on the dykes. If you walk on the path that starts in the wooded area, that trail can be muddy, rough and narrow. The full trail is circular and 6 km long. You can walk all the way around, or just walk as far as you want to and turn around and come back when you are tired. There are some benches along the dyke.
This location is great for taking pictures of landscapes, canoes, boats and birds. There are 2 towers that you can climb to get another perspective for your shots.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you.
