Virtual Photo Challenge: WHERE AM I?

This challenge is about taking a photo from a vantage point, or a recognizable location, for others to guess where you were when you took the photo.

To join in, start taking photos as soon as you sign up through to the actual Meetup date (Sept 2), and you may post your images at any time before or after that date.

There are no restrictions as to "location", but please try to use generally recognizable markers and clues; and, if posting images from "out of town", try to ensure something in the image can be recognizable to those of us back home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INSTRUCTIONS
You may take as many photos as you like, but post a maximum of 25 images per person to the Designated Album. All photos must be taken in camera between the date you sign up and the Meetup date, and resulting images can be posted at any time.
The photos you take can be of anything, but here are some ideas or themes that might spark your imagination:
* High point, low point, vantage point
* City street, country road, highway, intersection
* Park, landscape, water view
* Business, eatery, local icon, foreign icon
Make it more interesting by optionally providing a "clue" for others to guess where you are in the Caption of the posted image.
All group members are invited to guess locations in comments on the posted images, whether partaking in the challenge or not. Note, the author of the posted image should provide confirmation when the location is guessed. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

HOW IT WORKS

To participate, you must sign up for this Virtual Challenge by RSVPing "Yes" to this Meetup. Your own personal challenge starts when you sign up, and you commit to taking at least ONE photo according to the instructions.

It's best to use the Caption on the image if including a "clue" -- to facilitate easier browsing in "View All" mode.

NOTE: any images posted to the Album for this challenge that don't conform to the instructions will be automatically moved to the Members' Monthly Miscellaneous album without notice.

Use of all of your cameras are welcome, such as SLR, phone, toy, and point & shoots. Computer post-processing techniques (crop, colour correction, etc.) are allowed. To make it more challenging, we encourage use of "in-camera" settings and framing and minimal computer post-processing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All group members are encouraged to enjoy the photos that are posted by the participants of this challenge and add comments of encouragement and appreciation.
REMEMBER: we will NOT meet in person because this is a VIRTUAL challenge. There will be no judging and no prizes. If you sign up for the challenge, you are making a personal agreement with yourself to take photos and then post your best photos as laid out in the instructions.
Enjoy!!!!
    This challenge was fun. Thanks to your amazing pictures I have discovered Vancouver. I need to leave my suburb and go more often to the city.
      Well said, Laurence... this time the challenge certainly introduced some new and interesting places to discover! :)
    Lots of fun looking at images and trying to figure out where they were taken. I was nowhere as good at it as many others!
    Now, I am getting lots of "Good to see you at the Virtual Photo Challenge" Sorry if I do not reply in kind, but hey, I didn't see you, it was VIRTUAL, right?
    Rather... thanks for participating and making everyone's time a little more enjoyable.
    This is always one of my favorite challenges. It's fun to try to guess the location plus trying to stump the other photographers. It's getting harder to find places that no one has seen. Very few photos stumped people.
    This was quite fun. I didn't have many photos to put in as I'm a newbie, but it was fun to guess on others'.
    It was a fun way to interact with others, get the camera out, and get inspired by all the cool locations and great shots! It was a great time :)
    Super fun challenge and great participation all... There are two days left to take photos, so get your photos taken today and tomorrow (in camera). You can continue to post your images to the Album after the end date -- and guesses can continue until all locations in images are guessed correctly.
    Well, this will be fun to see areas through new eyes. Ties in nicely with our daily challenge. I'm off to search out a new view!
    Hey, Noel. I think your photos are great so don't be so hard on yourself. I post of a lot of photos sometimes I get very nice comments and sometimes everyone is totally silent. I can only assume the photos that get no comment are bla bla and uninteresting (or maybe they are so beautiful no one knows what to say!) Sometimes that makes me re-examine what I'm doing. In any case comment or no comment you learn something. But the main reason I take photos is that I just love to do it and they mean something to me. If a few others like the odd photo that's a bonus.
      Don't forget that many people would hit a Like button if given the chance and if it wouldn't spawn so many emails after a comment is made. So, if people are silent it's not necessarily "bad". :)
    Well, I might just surprise you yet.
    Well, it's a problem for me now with you guys being so smart. You wouldn't know now that I was born in Vancouver but now living in Maple Ridge. I hardly ever cross the bridge to come your way. I'm getting rusty our here strolling the dykes looking at cranberries, blueberries, horses, dogs, cows, coyotes, bears, deer and very few people. Sometimes we when walk we don't see a single person. Guess I'm going to have to renew my acquaintance with Vancouver big time.
      Interesting comment. That's one thing I get from this challenge is that I can guess where the photo was most likely taken by who took it. Over the last couple of years you get a sense of where people live by the photos they've taken. That's why I tried to include some vacation snaps to throw people off the scent. So now whenever you post a photo I'm going to automatically guess Maple Ridge regardless of where it was taken. Ha.
    Candy's photos were exquisite, great composition, well done. Mine were embarrassing by comparison. Nice shots all-round, Noel
    Well Len, guess I was asleep at my desk or at least I think that's were I was. You know that I'm a lost soul most of the time so I can't be sure where I was. Everyone guessed before I even saw them. I don't think I would have guessed as well as the others did. Everyone is posting good photos but I've been very slow this time finding my subjects. I keep getting distracted and lost along the dyes in Maple Ridge. You had some good ideas!
    August 12
    • Len W.
      No worries. I still have some harder ones to post yet. I also know of a couple of places I want to shoot that will be difficult to guess. I'll give you a heads up before I post them.
      August 12
  • Melody L.
    Hurry up Len I want to see those tough ones.
    • Len W.
      I just got back from vacation, someplace other than Vancouver.
      OK, Melody, I posted some easy ones to start. Then, I'll post some harder ones.
    This a great challenge ..... and it is fun. I don't know very well Vancouver and now I know where to go. May be in the future we could do a similar one: What is it?
    I love this challenge. I've already got some hard ones ready to post.
      Actually, while I've got a few ideas for shots, I'm going to be so busy in the next couple weeks that I won't have time to photograph them. I may be able to do it in the last week of August, but I'm going to change my RSVP now in case I can't so I don't get dinged for a no show. Sorry about that.
    Oh I love this idea. I haven't had time to take photos for the other projects due to mommyhood duties but this, I can do. I just hope I haven't violated the rules as I haven't done this in a while...
    Some puzzling submissions so far - and as usual all images are extremely interesting and shows off all the talent in this group. Keep 'em coming people! :)
