Virtual Photo Challenge: SEEK 2

Welcome to our the weekly virtual challenge series: SEEK.

By signing up to join us this week, you commit to finding, shooting and posting images representing ALL 5 items on the list provided.

This second week of the SEEK challenge starts promptly at 7am on Wednesday, November 21st.

Note: you must sign up before the start date to take part in this challenge.

By signing up you commit to finding, shooting and posting 5 images representing all 5 items on the list. You may take as many photos as you like, but you must post 5 images to the designated photo album for the challenge - one for each of the 5 items on the list.

1. A stop sign

2. Something very crooked

3. Reflection in a puddle

4. Beautiful tiles

5. Cooking mess

How it Works:

You must sign up to participate before the start date of this challenge.

Your own personal challenge starts when you RSVP to join us on the challenge. You commit to taking at least 5 photos, based on each of this week's 5 items in the list.

You must post exactly 5 images to the Designated Photo Album for this Challenge, and you must use the Caption to name the list item each photo represents.

No other photos are allowed. Your photos must be taken with your camera between the start and end dates of this challenge. If you cannot post your images on the day you took them, you can post later; there is no time limit for posting your images to the Album for the challenge.

Please note: the SEEK challenge encourages use of your "other" cameras, such as phone, toy, and point & shoots; and also encourages use of in-camera framing and unusual camera settings. Computer post-processing techniques (crop, colour correction, etc.) are allowed, but highly discouraged.

All group members are encouraged to enjoy the photos that are posted by the participants of this challenge and add comments of encouragement and appreciation.

REMEMBER: we will NOT meet in person because this is a VIRTUAL challenge. There will be no judging and no prizes. If you sign up for the challenge, you are making a personal agreement with yourself to take photos and then post your best photos as laid out in the instructions.

Note: If you miss the start date and cannot RSVP, then you must wait for the next challenge... :)

I agree with everyone that the challenges help me open my eyes to photos I may have missed in the past, or just didn't consider worthy of a photo. The only additional thing I might like is to have a day's break between challenges, so I have more time to look at everyone's pictures before starting to look for new ones!

Thank you Pat. If I mix the days up too much I might get confused and forget what I'm doing! LOL... would everyone prefer a Thursday start, ending on Tuesday?

Hi Trish I have enjoyed all the challenges I have participated in. They have made me look at things differently and photograph things that I never would have considered before....I just feel I am always now more aware of everything around me all the time. The only thing I miss in the SEEK challenges is looking for something in a specific colour....It amazed me how the "specific colour"just seemed to jump out at me..I have been very inspired viewing the photos by the other participants as well, there are sure a lot of creative, talented people that participate. As always, THANK-YOU for the time and effort you put into this for us....You have inspired many people by doing this....

Thank you Kelly. I feel honoured to be able to provide this fun exercise each week, and I agree that we have an amazing group of creative and talented (and fun) folks participating! And... A Colour is important. Gotcha :)

Trish, I find these challenges more prescriptive than the earlier ones. I like the idea of five things and five pictures, but I prefer less precise terms than, for instance, stop sign. Regarding the "no shows" ... I wonder if it is just that some want to be able to follow the work being done. Isn't this a bit "no harm no foul?" It's not like anyone is prevented from participating just because the numbers are high.

Thanks Grant. I don't want to tag No Shows, it just occurred to me that even though we say 5 photos must be posted that some may feel there should be consequences if there's not full participation... In essence, these are self-directed challenges whereby the more one puts in, the more one gets out of it IMHO.

How are you all enjoying this "SEEK" format? Anything you'd like to see changed, added back from previous challenges? Any new ideas for upcoming challenges? Thanks!

Hi Trish, I have only been involved in the two SEEK'S and one or maybe it was two, of the other category, I am and quite frankly notice very little difference. I am totally enjoying the challenges, because it is helping me be more creative. Even though I might have taken a category picture I continue seeing new photo opportunities in items I would never have looked at before just on the chance they come up. I am also doing thing that I have never done before, such as going into a retailers store and photographing something that fits what I am looking for. The challenges are widening my horizons.and sharpening my photographic skills.

Thanks for your feedback, Bob! I'm really glad you're getting so much out of it. Our first challenge of this sort, Photo-a-Day for 10 Days, produced similar results for many of us -- so I'm glad the current challenges are helpful too.

Also, I wonder if we should be tagging No Shows for these challenges? I.e., if people sign up for the challenge that clearly states the objective is to post 5 photos, and then don't post a single photo after a week or two. I'm not really interested in policing things, but if someone signs up and then doesn't post a single photo and then rates the challenge with 2 or 3 stars... seems there's something not quite right about that... or is it just me? Perhaps it's just a good indication that the challenge doesn't actually work as intended and needs to be changed???

"Cooking mess": Perfect timing for down here in the states!
You Vancouverites can come south for a second Thanksgiving, of course!

Wouldn't that be cool! If I would, I could :) I live 5 hours inland from the pretty city. I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
