OLYMPUS PRO PHOTOGRAPHER SHOWDOWN 2011 WINNER BLAKE JORGENSON
LAUNCHES WHISTLER WORKSHOPS MAY 19-22
Pro Photographers Paul Morrison, Eric Berger and Jordan Manley
Join For Whistler Outdoor Photography Workshop
WHISTLER, BC April 26, 2011 – After winning the Olympus Pro
Photographer Showdown during the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard
Festival for the second time in the last ten years, Blake
Jorgenson will share his expertise with aspiring action sports
photographers at the Whistler Outdoor Photography Workshop May
“Ten years ago there was no digital and everything was on
slides, so the shows were quite simple. Now, with digital
technology the shows have started to get more flashy and
complicated and high energy,” says Jorgenson. “I decided I
wanted to make the show like it was ten years ago, very slow
and intense and simple. To not make it too complicated and draw
the audience into the photos. I think it went over really well.”
Jorgenson will share his award-winning techniques alongside pro
photographers Paul Morrison, Eric Berger, and Jordan Manley for
the intensive and practical four-day seminar in Whistler.
“With two sold-out workshops last fall we wanted to expand on
the concept and bring in the expertise some other high caliber
photographers,” says Jorgenson. “We now have a larger and more
in-depth workshop that allows participants to compare multiple
points of view on outdoor photography with hands-on instruction
by world-class photographers.”
Each day will include on-location outdoor shoots featuring
professional bike and snow athletes, landscape and lifestyle,
as well as classroom sessions covering theory and industry
relations. An optional evening lecture series will also take
place, and of course evenings will allow participants the
opportunity to enjoy Whistler’s exceptional dining and
nightlife. On the last evening, an awards dinner will showcase
a presentation of the participant’s daily results.
The Whistler Outdoor Photography Workshop is designed for photo
enthusiasts interested in shooting outdoor and action
photography. Small groups will allow for one-on-one time with
each pro photographer and allow in-depth instruction about
their personal techniques and approaches. Light breakfast,
lunch and après session with drink and snack are included each
day as well as a hosted Award’s Dinner on the last night.
A basic understanding of photography and digital-SLR camera and
laptop computer are required for participation in this
workshop. For more information and to enroll contact:
Email: holly@ blakejorgenson.com
For more information about the instructors check out:
• Blake Jorgenson
• Eric Berger
• Paul Morrison
• Jordan Manley
Whistler Outdoor Photography Workshops will continue each
season with new
instructors, new industry guests, and various formats. For more

For those that have been asking for a great one-day workshop to take your photography to the next level, here's a great opportunity to learn from a pro. One day only.
Digital Color/Travel Photography Workshop
with Stuart Dee
Saturday, July 30, 2011
Back by popular demand, this workshop is suited for all levels, from beginning amateurs to more advanced photographers. It includes informal discussions, live demonstrations, shooting exercises, digital slide presentations, and critiques of student work. A major part of the workshop is spent shooting on location. Students will have a lot of free time outdoors, using beautiful Vancouver as a subject to try new tips, ideas and techniques learned during the workshop.
Stuart Dee’s work reflects a passion for creating vibrant, unique images in exotic locales worldwide. He has travelled to over 300 destinations in forty countries capturing stunning images. His work is represented internationally by Getty Images, and has been published in countless magazines and ads worldwide.
Sharpening your Photographic Vision: For great photography, the most essential requirement is great vision. One may be familiar with photographic basics but want to have better creative control of the medium to achieve pre-visualized results more consistently. Participants will not only learn to see in new ways but also gain a solid foundation to support their vision and to encourage a more creative and intelligent approach to picture-making. Visual perception, colour theory, light and lighting, aesthetics, composition, metering, filters, camera controls, digital imaging, basic Photoshop controls and other topics may be discussed in relation to creating great images, including people, animals, nature, cities, landscapes, close-ups or architecture.
Other topics may include: preparing for travel,, photographing in foreign countries, model releases, covering a destination, how to shoot stock, copyright, how to sign on with an agency, getting your work published.
Additional workshops in foreign locations, including a Photo Safari in Africa, will be offered in the future.

This is just a friendly reminder that our 3-course (8 weeks per course) creative and fine art photography program, "Outside the Rules", starts once again in October 2011. This year, we are returning to our original format of offering the program only as consecutive courses. We have learned in the past couple of years that there are significant benefits to keeping each group together as much as possible because it takes time for a group to form the trust necessary for the best interaction, so the longer a group stays together, the better.
For the upcoming year:
Term 1: "Establishing Your Point of View" starts October 2011,
Term 2: "Creating a Body of Work" starts January 2012, and
Term 3: "Refinement, Finish and Where Your Work Belongs" starts April 2012.
For each term, there is a choice of Tuesday nights (7-10pm) or Saturday mornings (10am-1pm).
It is still possible to join the class in January or April, but priority will always be given to existing and previous students. And always, our course content is continually changing to keep current and to keep up with Wendy and Russ' evolving understanding of the art, science and philosophy of modern photography.
There is lots more information on our website: http://WendyKwan.com... or http://RusselKwan.com... . To register, you may simply reply to our meetup email address, or use the handy form on our website.
Thanks and hope to see you soon!
Russ and Wendy
PS. To keep costs low, we rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth advertising, so please pass the word to anyone you know who might be interested! Thanks again!
